David Beckham would surely be an excellent name for anything taking to the sky.

I’m convinced he should be knighted for services to penalty taking.

Swiss will phase out their last MD-11 (HB-IWE) at the end of the summer timetable (It’s due to operate the ZRH-EWR route until then). The ones that LX have recently retired (with the arrival of the A340’s) have I believe mostly gone to Varig (and Varig’s have gone to LH for Cargo conversion… This is because the LX ones had PW engines, and LH Cargo’s were GE engined, as were RG’s. As LH have more clout within Star, LH managed to rig it so they kept engine commonality.)

right, just to clear it up once and for all… JFK to DUB is 3170 Miles, and EWR to LAX is 2450 Miles. Now, unless Shannon is 700 Miles closer to New York than Dublin (allowing for the fact that EWR and JFK are less than 20 Miles apart), SNN is not closer to JFK than LAX is.

    QED.

BA are also regularly early into LHR from NY, too… it’s purely reliant on strong tailwinds, though, and is therefore seasonal.

Just had a look at Swiss.com for a potential day trip to BHX from Basel, and it’ll only cost 1500 franks (that’s 1048Euros). All I can say is, that fcuk they’re a low cost no frills airline… I’d hate to imagine what it’d cost with a full service airline…

Needless to say, I won’t be coming unless the prices come down a lot. (for comparisons sake, I payed 470 Franks for my recent BA flights to Glasgow return…)

lack of sporting teams to be proud of? Don’t European finals count? I don’t recall you moaning about lack of teams when you were in Seville at the Licence payers’ expense… 😉

they’re talking to over 30 airlines, and hope to sell over 600? Do they really think they can find 30 airlines who can afford to buy 20 planes each (on average) in the current economic climate?

Current Aer Lingus flying times are:

    SNN-JFK – 7:20 hrs
    JFK-SNN – 6:20 hrs

United list the EWR-LAX route as 5h 50, and LAX-EWR is 5h 10. How does that make Shannon closer to New York than LA?

I use that site but one thing to note; it doesn’t include any Ryanair flights.

yes, that’s because it actually looks where you want to go, and not where Ryanair dumps you…

BCN isn’t too bad, especially if you’re on a remote stand and get the bus out… for some sample photos, look for my trip report there from March.

The Space Shuttle Enterprise is the only one with it’s only hangar currently. 🙂

    Enterprise isn’t a Space Shuttle, though, it’s only a mockup…
