RE: 9 Aircraft Carriers to Gulf?
as I understood it from the News yesterday, the Charles de Gaulle isn’t actually going to the Gulf, it’s going for manoeuvers in the Eastern Med (although that’d potentially also be within striking distance of Iraq)

RE: Iberia gets A340-600
hey, we were talking about this last week… in conjunction with Boeing losing the plot with that statement on their website… 😉
RE: Alliance Air
or do you mean this one?

RE: Airport codes
so what are EGPF, EGPK, EGPH and EGPD near, then? :S
(that’s Glasgow, Prestwick, Edinburgh and Aberdeen respectively to the uninititaed) And where does EGQL fit in, which is pretty much half way between EGPH and EGPD (it’s Leuchars/St. Andrews, before you ask)?
RE: Earth re-entry problems
a new design sounds sensible… BUT… it’s built by Boeing, which can mean only one thing…
stand by for the Space Shuttle NG…
the almost newly designed, Orbiter-600 (also avaliable in slightly bigger -7/8/900 series).
Combining the best 30 year old technology with slightly bigger luggage racks.
Plus, of course (and this is best bit) the option of winglets.
and of course, the loosely based upon BBO (Boeing Business Orbiter).

RE: Short-haul turboprops
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-02-03 AT 04:48Â PM (GMT)]it’s not the ATR he’s listed at the bottom, it’s the ATP…
for reasons, see his (or rather, my regurgigation) post of a cynical piece about the ATP a couple of days ago in the ‘favourite big turboprop’ thread. (http://www.keymags.co.uk/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=read_count&om=2…)
RE: 717
why?????
it has dead duck stamped all over it…
innovate, not upgrade, ffs…
and to consider Boeing’s motto is… Forever new Frontiers… :S
RE: IBERIA TO JOIN THE LONG LIST OF A340-500/-600 CUSTOMERS
if airlines went for looks, the 737 would be a dead duck.

yes, they’re called ugly bassas. er, I mean, 737s.

RE: Closed Airports
I was trying to send my grandfather home to Glasgow from BSL today…
the lunchtime BA/LX LHR flight was cancelled, but we managed to get him on the LX flight to MAN at 12:10. at least, it was scheduled for 12:10… it left 40 minutes late, which means he’s missed his connecting flight (having rebooked his BA shuttle flight from LHR to GLA to the first avaliable flight from MAN to GLA… a bmi flight… but obviously, BA wan’t having that, so booked him in under an LH flight number.) Now… who can tell me who I phone to find out what time he’ll arrive home tonight so I can have him met at the airport? BA? bmi? LH?
RE: Boeing… a bit P’ed off at Iberia.
four engines 4 long haul. the 777’s a piece of junk 😉
And that’s a shocking statement for Boeing to make… wake up and smell the coffee, design a new plane for once. You can’t keep rehashing 60’s designs endlessly (ok, credit for the 777, but I think most pax (self loading cargo, if you will) prefer the 2-4-2 of the 340 to the 2-5-2 of the 777.)
RE: LHR-GLA flight emergency landing at MAN last night.
MAN-GLA is operated by both BA and bmi with ERJ145’s.
RE: LHR-GLA flight emergency landing at MAN last night.
I’m not sure which actual flight it was… but the evening flights from LHR to GLA are scheduled for 737-400’s on the 18:15/19:20 shuttles, with A320’s operating the 17:15 and 20:25 shuttles. (the 16:25 is an A319)
