RE: Ryanair Opens another European Base – Stockholm Skavsta !!!
from the Evening Times
BUDGET airline Ryanair will fly from Prestwick to Stockholm, it was confirmed today.
The Irish carrier will launch a daily service on April 4, with tickets starting at £41 one-way.
The announcement, two weeks after negotiations were revealed by the Evening Times, marks the 10th new flight by Ryanair from Prestwick.
Ryanair boasted that it would bring 50,000 people a year to Glasgow and earn £14million for the Scottish economy.
The company has set up a base at Skavsta Airport, Stockholm’s No2 hub.
Glasgow’s tourism bosses believe golf-mad Swedes will flood into the city and nearby.
The Evening Times revealed late last year that Swedish low-cost operator Malmo Aviation would offer a summer service from south Sweden to Glasgow.
Glasgow still lags well behind Prestwick in the range of direct daily scheduled international links.
But the airport, Scotland’s biggest thanks to a booming sunshine charter business, was tipped today to secure a vital link with Germany.
Aviation experts believe German national carrier Lufthansa will announce a new route from Glasgow to Munich within days. And it could be opened as early as March.
Glasgow Airport owners BAA Scottish Airports and Lufthansa refused today to confirm or deny the report.
The route will have to compete with Ryanair, which flies to Frankfurt from Prestwick.
Lufthansa will unveil its summer timetable within a week.
Industry sources expect its European regional wing, CityLine, to announce the Glasgow flights.
A daily Munich route would be Glasgow Airport’s biggest boost since it announced £60m in airport charge discounts last July.
Glasgow politicians will watch closely to see if BAA can secure the route, highlighted as one of the most important for Scotland by Deputy First Minister Jim Wallace.
Glasgow lost its Lufthansa link with Germany, a key business route, years ago.
City Council, business and tourism leaders have lobbied for its restoration ever since.
A spokesman for council leader Charles Gordon said: “Germany is an extremely important market for Glasgow.
“Munich has tremendous potential as a business and leisure destination.”
Two weeks ago the Evening Times revealed low-cost giant Germanwings wanted to launch daily budget flights between Edinburgh and Cologne.
RE: Flight simulator 2002
come on… it wasn’t that bad… at least you’re not a faithful down Gorgie Road way… 😉 😀
RE: Star Alliance launches new aircraft livery, Asiana Airlines to premiere bold design
yeah, I saw the Asiana pic on a.net…
I’m not so keen on it… it’s not as bold as the previous Star liveries… but then, I suppose, there’s only so many logos/liveries you can fit on a fuselage…
And there’s no longer an indication externally of who else is in Star.
RE: Yet Another European Low Cost Airline !!!
see these Astraeus flights? do they all have enroute stops in Cardiff? :S
RE: Cheapest way from Melbourne to Isle of Man??
I dunno, tbh, but it’s alright (I think) if you do it over the phone, rather than online.
RE: Cheapest way from Melbourne to Isle of Man??
you might find most places doing that… wanting the card holder to be among the travelling party… it’s the new security measures, not much you can do to get around it, unfortunately.
I’ve had a bit more of a look around Opodo… Austrian Airlines (Lauda Air) will fly you from Melbourne to CDG via Vienna on your dates for 803 pounds + 73 tax… dunno how much it’d cost from CDG to IOM, though… (easyjet to LPL, maybe?)
only thing is, to meet the return flight you’d need to be at CDG for 6:45am…
RE: SOUTH AFRICAN AIRWAYS CELEBRATES FIRST A340-600
sod that.
for all that the 752 has a narrower cabin compared to the 320 family, I’d rather sit in a 752 any day and let those RB211’s rip. *drools at thought*
nonetheless, given the choice of the 320 or a 73, the narrow cabin loses out.
Whether or not the GE90 will create the same amount of thrust per mass as the BR211-535 is debatable… can’t quite see it, as it’d be madness to equip a plane with so much redundant thrust now that acccountants are running the airline business.
RE: Cheapest way from Melbourne to Isle of Man??
When in April? tried to price it with Opodo (flying MEL-IOM on Thursday the 3rd, returning on Sunday the 20th).
Total fare came up as 1251 pounds. (1185 fare + 66 tax)
(MH MEL-KUL, VS KUL-LHR, BA LGW-IOM, same route/carriers on the way back).
Possibly cheaper if you go midweek, though…
RE: SOUTH AFRICAN AIRWAYS CELEBRATES FIRST A340-600
yeah, gotta love a Roller powered plane, eh? 😉
RE: Pilot grounded under drink suspicion
well, yeah, but, let’s face it… would you be going to war if you were stone cold sober? :S
RE: SOUTH AFRICAN AIRWAYS CELEBRATES FIRST A340-600
the 343 must be the most underpowered widebody for it’s size…
Wys, you talk about the excess thrust you have on the 752… bet you wish you had some of it on the 343…

RE: 25/01 – Chautauqua jet lands at the wrong airport
or the (I think NW) Northwest 747 that landed at Brussels instead of Frankfurt. (And everyone in the cabin knew they were in the wrong place too, thanks to the IFE Maps. Apparently, the flight crew were the only people who thought they were in Frankfurt.)
RE: 747 SP
SR isn’t the same as SP…
isn’t that just the domestic version of the 741?… designed for frequent rotations?
RE: The GE90-115B!
yeah, on the 777-300ER
