No flights MSE – ALC for Summer 2008.

    Only charter routes available are….

    Palma (Mallorca)
    Las Palmas (Gran Canaria)
    Malta
    Verona
    Naples
    Pula
    Jersey

Only the Palma & Jersey are operating weekly thru the Summer, all other routes are limited by date/frequency.

    Hope this helps.

Sorry Ren Frew if I’ve ruffled your feathers but how many times do people ask that age old question on here? And how many times does someone give them the same answer as I’ve just explained. Enough of you who ask it spend day in day out on here and should know better, so I’ll sit where I like if you don’t mind! Ta.

Perhaps open a thread alongside the “Commercial Aviation” thread with “My flight questions” but that’s up to the mods/Admin guys, otherwise us seeking “Commercial Aviation” news and interests have to rummage through the constant drivel of “I’m going on holiday and it’s life or death that I know the reg 3 months in advance”.

    Fair point I say!

How many people ask these questions on here? Do none of you realise that airlines move their aircraft round from base to base as required and although G-XXXA may be at BHX today, it could easily be swapped over night for G-XXXB for operational reasons/maintanance etc. It is a pointless question and anyhow why does it matter so much??? Make your journey a little more exciting by waiting and seeing on the day, Jesus what are you gonna get from knowing in advance anyhow??? Oh and mods just a suggestion but why not change the name of this website to http://www.whatregwillibeflyingoninweekstocome.com.

Rant over, it’s Christmas go out and have some festive fun!

It was an I/B from Rhodes with 60 odd pax on board, just a strange shuffling round of A/C at the end of the season, no other reason.

Stansted – Beauvais is there too, bit of a strange one Gatwick for FR but then they are the two London airports with no Paris connection so could make sense. FR was said to not want to compete with Eurostar but then they have recently relaunched Stansted – Charleroi so I guess it was just a matter of time.:D

As crew on the big blue plane I can honestly say that our long haul product is second to none these days, having joined in the old days of “BY” our service long-haul is far more superior to what it was.

Long haul aside and on the subject of short haul…. All I can say is perhaps crew wise you caught them on a bad day, we all have bad days no matter what profession we work in (we’re only human), perhaps that’s what happened on your flight??? There’s days when I don’t want to be in the big blue tube and days when I have a really great day – great crew + great passengers who really appreciate the service and the banter and all that. Yes our short haul has changed, it’s adapted to a changing market of low-cost everything thanks to the arrival of FR and EZY and the likes. Our fares are lower and you get what you pay for – gone are the days of running out with hot bread rolls on short haul and squash for the kiddies – in has come “apparently” what the travelling public wants, which in all fairness on a 2hr journey do you really expect to be dined and wined and treated like an Arabian prince for £24.99 including taxes??? Try popping into the Ritz in Mayfair with £25 in your pocket and see where you get.

Just a couple of other points of interest…..

    – Upgraded cabins – are long-haul only, short-haul 767’s have been fitted with leather seats but these aircraft are highly utilised sometimes 3 rotations a day in the Summer months to keep fares low so maybe that answers why aircraft become a bit shabby. They are often on the ground an hour, that’s disembarking and boarding in that time, would you really appreciate hearing “flight TOMXXXX is delayed for an hour due to heavy cleaning of the inbound aircraft?” I understand your delay was for other reasons but aircraft + on the ground + delay = ££££.

    – IFE – Ok sometimes things go wrong, did you ask for a refund, no one would have refused. As for selling headsets, I can assure you that I wouldn’t be selling them if it was broken (I’m after an easy life it wouldn’t be worth mine or anyone else’s time), maybe they sold them and then it didn’t work??? Again no one would have refused you a refund. Tech issues happen, planes, trains, cars and TV’s they all break down from time to time. Again do you want to sit a further 2 hours + whilst an engineer fixes the problem so you can watch re-runs of AB-Fab??? I guess not.

    – Catering – or Aldo Zili to be precise. Meals have received a very warm reception with the exception of a few who have turned their noses up saying “I don’t like foreign food” or “I’d rather pie and chips” however the best I had on a recent flight- “I don’t eat curry!”. I didn’t have the heart to tell the lady it was Italian – bless. You can’t please everyone, but having seen 10 years of in-flight catering on both the big blue bird and many others – it is a vast improvement.

    – The Tui takeover – Ok the company has changed from back in the day, however in terms of crew many of us “BY lot” are still here we’ve not changed. When Tui marched in they didn’t march us all out and march in a whole load of blue clad robots.

    – Seat plans – There does seem to be a problem with the layout shown on all tickets at present. I think (and it’s only my guess) that the method used to produce these is being updated with the new configs as all flights seem to have this problem. PSU are fully aware and realise that we don’t just fly 757’s so when you call them they will advise you different. Did you call them pre-departure to arrange seats???

Well hope this may offer some help to your questions or gripes, I can only say I have had good and bad flights with say Virgin, but I don’t refuse to fly with them from a couple of bad experiences, the good ones will always out way the bad.

    😉

I think you’ll find Luton and Gatwick aren’t in the AtoZ either but they’re still London airports to be fair, but in all honesty it has nothing to do with the original post so move on….

    757 & seat pitch

I’m not tall by any means… a mere 1.75m but even my knees dug firmly into the back of the seat in front.

I’m always amazed when people moan about the seat pitch on the charter 757’s when they’re most defdinately under 6ft. I have worked on the 757 as crew for a well known British charter airline for 10 years now, I’m 5ft10 and fit quite comfortably into one of the seats. Yes it’s tight but my knees don’t touch the seat infront. Maybe it’s more to do with your posture when you sit (hence you must be slumped half way down the seat) or your legs equate to 3/4’s of your body height I have no idea.

Just to clarify…. BRIG/BRIF/BYAA/BYAB are all 767-200’s and are not being refitted, just the 767-300’s noted by their reg G-OBY_, tho not all 767-300’s are having the refit, just 5 from what I understand with one staying in the 315 config, but having the new seat back system fitted. As previously mentioned BRIG/BRIF have or are due to leave the ThomsonFly fleet leaving just BYAA/BYAB which will return to the 290 config for the coming Summer Season.

The 767-200 seen in Dublin recently is there for a patch up after an incident with a vehicle in Al Ain (UAE). All 767-300 refits are being carried out by Air New Zealand in Aukland.

The seat shown on the http://www.thomsonsenses.co.uk is in fact the premium seat which in my opinion is not as “large” as the old style premium seat, and yes the meal tray is infact attached to the seat infront unlike the old style (armrest).

The legroom in both ThomsonFly Plus & Premium is amazing having witnesed it the cabin does finally look like a real airline, infact it puts a lot of airlines to shame now and the seat back system is far more superior to that of other airlines I’ve travelled recently; BA, AA, VS, CO, GF, EK to name just a few.

The economy seats (Plus) are similar in style to the refitted leather seats found on the 767-200, although they are taller in height with the addition of the seat back system and of course the extra leg room.

Finally from what I understand Aldo Zilli has been contracted for the next couple of years, all flights O/B at least will be catered with the new menu, inbound where oversea’s catering kitchen’s are needed a “similar” menu will be featured i.e; don’t expect a gourmet Aldo Zilli lunch on a flight from Puerto Plata to Gatwick, but who knows.
