Hi all
Mrs C hates all things aviation and is scared of airoplanes. The only aircraft shes ever been on was the VC-10 at duxford and she shot down the isle and out the back, BUT she 2 years ago she bought me a print of XH558 Signed by Dave Thomas the vulcan display pilot for my birthday which hangs at the top of the stairs and looks fab. I wouldnt swap her for a flight in a lightning.

What your are thinking about is AVPIN its the mono combustable fuel that the lightnings starting system uses and its getting very hard to get hold of. Most uk millitary jets use AVTUR fuel.

Hi All
Can’t see the CAA letting the thunder city lightnings anywere near uk airspace. I have been told that cockpitfest are trying to have a lightning gathering this year but this is the only thing i have heard about so far. Lets hope there are more things to come
Scott C
Now now people

Hi All
The problem most museums have with caring for there exibits is a mixture of two things money and having people to do the work. Most museums cant pay there staff and run on the good will of people. Take doncaster and elvington again, ive worked at both and elvington is a good place and atracts many people to work there but most of there time is spent moving around aircraft and looking after there live aircraft. (The victor team work as a sepeate group helping out the museum when needed). But doncaster is at the other end of the scale. Its a small museum site with a lot of restoration projects waiting in the wings its not as high profile as elvington and as such dosnt atract as many helpers. The small group of us at doncaster are doing as much as we can but everything has to wait it’s turn and its not just the aircraft that have to be looked after there is the day to day site running as well ( cutting the grass manning the shop decorating restoring the buildings on site) but we do what we can. I suspect this is the main reson that suderlands vulcan is in the condition it is.
So it time to get of your bums and go help out somewhere.
Rant over

Hi Peter
funny but the victor has been brought up on the the duxford airspace thred. I do hope that this aircraft goes indoors as i do have a soft spot for the victor as i am involved with XL231 at elvington. (thats right im not just a lightning man).

hi all
Looks like its the end for the only surviving mk.1 victor then it was to go in the new ‘superhanger’ but i guess its not

hi all

Hi Peter
I was told be someone at waddington that at some point many years ago the cockpit door got bashed by something and moved it out of alignment then some one slamed the door shut jamming it and to get it open again they would have to do smoe serious damage to the door.
Scott C
