Sens, some of your posts are in left field. You don’t increase drag purposely at transonic speed, area ruling negotiates the build up to allow less resistance in the transition. It also helps once supersonic.
The J75 is inherently more capable of high speeds by design. The J57 has to use coolant injection to reach speeds above M2.0 because of heating issues. J79 is more capable by design and using the same methods pushes well beyond M2.0 regardless of the intake. The complex intakes stabilize the airflow to mitigate issues at supersonic speeds, but do not by themselves make sustained multi-Mach flight possible.
I was curious about the J-57 and how limited the engine was in attaining Mach 2 or better. Many people have talked about it. The F-101 @M1.75 was the fastest combat loaded J-57 user, but many claim the later F-100 was fully capable of Mach 2. (The F-8 made it’s M1.85 run clean.) I find the claim to be dubious and think people were confusing the J57 with the J75.

The Crusader used a more efficient version of the engine in the prototype than any production version used in an F-100. The F-8 was designed with better understanding of area rule which made a big difference, too. The test pilot that set the record for an F-8 was under orders to hold back, which meant it could have pushed further.

I liked doing the first Saab’d Flogger that I did a more frontal view that is fairly close to the first.
I swapped to a single tail because it wouldn’t have been a Flogger-like design unless I either went some sort of twin-engine design or rear strakes to mount twins on.
Nice idea but I presume they want a cargo ramp not a large side door.

C-27J is not the brand spanking new design people give it credit. It’s an old revision of an old revision of an old four engine design that has also went through multiple revisions. The Dash 8 in my opinion is too narrow of body. The C-27J would complement their C-130J. Favorable terms in this deal will just lead to more C-130J orders.
If you are going to option for civilian variants may as well build DC-9 series 10’s with shortened bodies and newer, bigger engines. We could get real silly in no time.

Third is the F-117 using more Blackbird-like shaping. I know it is impossible to see, but I went to the trouble of using dark upside-down Rafale intakes on the SR-117.
With that much nose down it isn’t a problem to get there for any contender including the existing T-38. You throw some minor deviations from the straight up stated KPPs and this is a whole different game. They may as well allowed a jato strap on… Every single one of these designs will meet that relatively minor goal on the grand scheme.
I wonder if they would entertain the idea of an Antonov An-74 option. It would, even with significant India input, be well within the financial constraints.
I believe it has more to do with FBW requirements than how fast it goes. Software programs can work you through scenarios that manual controls cannot mimic. How do you mimic Force Feedback sticks in a T-38?
