For their use they could stand to get a CN-235 with C-295 engines and wings.

C-295 looks to be the best candidates of the bunch. Lots of users and low price.

You’re way over $3 billion and the spec only requires a maximum of 10 metric tonnes if I heard correct. You would be way over capabity. This is an India bid, you do not over spec.

Below is why Boeing didn’t allow the British to customize their own AWACS version, it would have become a Swiss Army Knife of sorts…

I don’t see this being a sub-$4 billion program. And they could really end up with nothing in the end.

Don’t kid yourself, it’s a low drag load out meant for a pretty one-dimensional mission. If you slung bomb racks under there you don’t necessarily have the same results.

You can stall an armor column faster with smart clustering munitions, but I get what you’re talking about. The clusters aren’t effective in the right terrains. You need overlap of capability. The AH is still relevant when it operates under barcap, but it isn’t always available either.

The way I see it. Nobody is going to risk expensive attack helicopters or their
crews, against an enemy that has a ground to air missile capability.

Longbow sits outside the threat zone to deliver its goods. This is why they have data links, mast mounted sights, fire and forget guidance, etc.

The MiG-29 has always looked pretty rugged with its heavy fuselage design, but how about we take it and give it a more sleek look? First with the Tornado body. Second with the Typhoon body.

It’s a shame the CdG is too small to handle F-35C. They’d almost be better off sending both PoW and QE to mothballs and buying the CdG. I fear the lack of AEW is going to be the Achilles heel of the QE ships.

The F-35 is not even remotely an A-35. Please dismiss yourself.

The F-35 wil carry external loads better than 4th generation jets do now. And it has much more excess thrust than the F-16, F-15E and F/A-18. And it’s huge improvement in situational awareness make it inherently more survival. These arguments were meted out seven years back. Read the archives.

Maybe the government should require LM to sell off competing fighter designs to other domestic entities so that LM can devote all its effort into the F-35. And it will have to keep an eye out from competition like said F-16.

If you go BAE model, then you must keep a fleet of F-16Ds to prepare the pilots for F-22/F-35.

What people really like about the Hawk – besides price – is that it doesn’t lose energy is most bank turns like similar jets, and it is very smooth to fly. Nobody will mistake the Hawk trainers for an F-16, but it is adequate. The Hawk does allow experience in transonic flight, therefore it is a stepping stone to heavier jets. It would be nice to have FBW.

The whole point of using FBW in trainers is programmable controls to simulate the responses of other aircraft. FBW offers many safety issues when flying on the edge of the flight envelope, but it is not economical to offer it in every trainer. You can push pilot training through spin recovery. There have been plenty of Hawks built that this should be rectified, and perhaps offered in upgrades.

How about an Avon-powered Hawker Siddeley Etendard? Shown here next to the Dassault version.

    Second is the F-15N.

Third is F/A-18H Super Duper Hornet using the engines off the F-15E.

edit: minor touch ups, like UK roundel and tail tag.

India’s Su-30’s have more western kit in them than what the Chinese will get, so it is not really comparable.
