AMX two seater has been built – as a trainer. Brazil has several. But a subsonic light attack aircraft ain’t a full replacement for the F-5s, however many seats it has.
AMX was built with multirole in mind. It has the tools to do most of the F-5BM’s work.
I think we can all sit back and relax for a time. Extract from AviationWeek:
Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff has decided to wait until mid-2013 to make a decision on a multibillion-dollar Air Force jets contract…

See post #7.
Too bad they couldn’t slep the AMX into a two sweater to replace the F-5’s. They really need an Su-30 counter and neither M2K nor Gripen offer that. They really should look at Rafael and just pull the trigger. If they partnered with India on Rafael they should cross-license Tejas. It fits their light fighter need.
They would revive Tu-128P if big was necessary. Why convert aircraft you are already short?
The best F-111C picture IMHO

Doesn’t like hot links. Its the top picture here:

Pretty damning evidence what happened. They now know what kind of missile and likely can deduce where it was fired from. If Assad’s regime was interested in fixing the crisis he would bring forward the guilty party and publicly admonish them while at the same time asking for forgiveness from the Turks and offering generous restitution.
They tried to fit R-27 to MiG-31, but aerodynamic heating issues thwarted the idea. I want to say R-77 is an option already, but it was a version certified for sustained supersonic travel.
There are at least two nozzle variations of the WS-10, one of which is similar to the nozzles on this prototype. I have a feeling this airframe is sixty feet long and bigger than people think. What track record does this company have with RD33/RD93?
I could have sworn there were 10 or 11 that were haggled over after the first deal, but the deal hinged on restoration of those airframes.
The last one looked like a swing wing of some type.
Even if this new bird is produced for PLAN or PLAAF, it won’t be a key player for 20 years. It hasn’t yet flown and is basically at the X-35 stage. It’s a hand built airframe nowhere near production. If it’s using Klimovs then it may be equivalent to the X-35 power-wise. It may even have a single weapons bay underneath rather than the pair on the F-35. But so what? It will be heavier (even perhaps overweight in comparison), use less fuel-efficient powerplants, use two powerplants to double it’s chances for problems, require more maintenance, fly with more drag, have half as many chances to use weapons if the doors to the bay fail, generate more heat at any given flight envelope, have inferior electronics, less stealth, and confined to use less efficient weapons. Doesn’t sound like a bigger threat than the Russian T-50 or their own J-20, more like a budgeted compromise for what is possible with their current technology. You might even say they want to keep up with the Joneses.
I’ve got a great nickname for this one. Psuedodragon. It fits both their naming conventions and the nature of their copycat design.

I doubt it is smaller by volume or weight.
It also looks void of engines.
So the J-20 truly is in a classic competition. This is easily as big as the J-20 and nowhere near the F-35 in size.
