It would help if the AF leadership would get on board with LM’s statistics regarding maintenance. When they over staff the maintenance crew and use procedures built around the current system, rather than following the advice from the manufacturer – that actually designed the plane to be maintained a new way – then numbers from each will be off.
Too bad the LM team isn’t building an FA-50 like fighter built around the F125 engine for affordability reasons. Market it as the F-5 and T-38 replacements. K-I-S-S the design plus make it dependable. Most of all, make it work.
Could it be their HARM equivalent. I was just being vicesious saying AAM-5. It wasn’t the -3 or -4 for sure.
You must realize Rafale is built for Mica. It needs extensions for Meteor.
AAM-5
When the F136 got defunded it pretty much gave the incentives to look elsewhere than go with the F-35B/C. It’s a shame our allies are getting this message. That’s what happens when union thugs get decision maker jobs.
Or its flying towards a sun low on the horizon and the camera is slightly below its plane.
Stealth if used properly can still be a 50% multiplier in the defensive role. It’s the equivalent of the army’s camouflage. Defenders masked by camouflage have enjoyed an advantage that has often allowed them better than a 50% advantage. I see no reason this kind of advantage wouldn’t be extended to the skies.
PIRATE offers granularity, but you still need search volume. If you’re carrying the extra set(s) of eyes then use them. Its not like the missiles churn through coolant while operating nowadays.
If Typhoon wins it would still be wise to incorporate Mica IR search functions into the Mirage 2K, which is one reason the upgrade costs so much. Would be nice to see ASRAAM and IRIS-T have similat integration on Typhoon.
The L-159 purchase has actually been in the works for two years. It sure dragged on long enough. I just think its a great choice at this stage for the Iraqi AF.
Quite frankly they both are quite good options. Neither team should be ashamed to lose.
Baby steps in the right direction.
I don’t know, perhaps you could say that ATGM’s were their secret weapons and they are nothing less than one way flying drones loaded with an internalized bomb.
The radar emissions are shaped and coordinated in a shared topology. Every radar is made aware of the specific coded signal and origin so that when that signal returns to its partners they all can gather their own information on the return. Its not just about shared tracks. In this way you can be sending and receiving simultaneously from multiple sources without confusing the return information.
