AV-8B is a fast jet, true, but that works against it in the majority of CAS missions.

Just a hunch, but she looks like something meant for mineral exploration, not necessarily battle. Maybe they want a way to speed delivery of samples to the surface, therefore the tubes. Something that small wouldn’t be necessarily good for much other than operating in a narrow window of opportunity.

I wonder when Venezuela will receive its Mi-28s.. if at all.

Probably will for passing those S-300 on to Iran.

Blasts hit secret Iranian missile launching-pad for US, Israeli targets

This is a huge tidbit of news. Very few people seem to understand the magnitude of this worm infection. It extends way beyond Iran.

Nice pictures, but why do Greek F-16s, even the new Block 52+ advanced versions, always look really dirty on the outside?

    Is this envoironmental conditions?

If you’ve ever spent much time in Greece it seems like everything gets covered in black soot in no time. I was told back in the 90’s it’s the air pollution coming from Italy settling in on them. Things get nasty like that in and around the bigger Italian cities, so it might be true. idk

Thanks for the clarification. I was stumped which one it tied into. Pretty sure it wasn’t mine, but curious to what it would have been.

If they’re team players they should be thinking common defense. If there were surplus carriers then they should be thinking of affordable leasing within their alliance.

The Harrier may be able to fly conventional, but what’s the point? It’s meant to be deployed in a VTOL role. If a runway is availabe then there are much better options than overloading the Harrier. The reason you don’t want to operate Harriers out in the open is it’s obvious vulnerability to small arms fire.

The A-10 has a few advantages over the AV-8B that would lend to it’s higher survival rate. The cockpit armor. The second engine. The design of the wing to remain controllable when half of it is removed or inert. A second vertical stabilizer. The standardized communication gear allowing it to talk to everyone by default, not just other marines. Those are just a number of reasons the A-10 is superior for CAS in my opinion. I’m guessing more thought was put in the A-10’s survival against the SAM threat, too.

The A-10 sure seems to pop up whenever ground pounders need help and they seem to be pretty grateful for it. The Harrier doesn’t get much press or live leak coverage.

The marines could fly out of 1500 dirt airstrips in WW2. Not so sure we should have abandoned that concept considering the cost of F-35B.

The alternative to ‘scrapping’ is parking. There is a nice desert across the pond that would make a good parking lot for the whole lot of them. 😉

The majority of a marine pilot’s flight time involves coming and going from dry land. I’m thinking they don’t need a lot of modification for USMC duty operating from dry land.
