Well, the F-22 carries a potent military load whereas the Lightning carried a small pair of heatseekers for one. Drop the F-22’s load to two AAM’s and you’ll see its range extended. The F-22 operates at much higher speeds over that paltry range, giving it a chance for more sorties per day. What does the Lightning cruise at, 380 knots? The F-22 doesn’t cruise, it supercruises; that smaller range is much more worthwhile. Add in the legs of the weapons and you darn near reach the same fringe. The F-22 could fly at cruise speeds to be rated at a longer range, but it wouldn’t make much military sense.
The Iraqi F.1 largely neutralized the air superiority of Iran because it was too potent for either F-4 or F-14 pilots to risk a tangle with. The awg-9 was thwarted by the ecm pod. And the F.1 was too maneuverable for its Iranian counter parts. However, the F.1 was unable to escape Hawk missile batteries if it got into a missile trap. Therefore the Iraqi pilots had strict operational procedures for operations so that they did not wind up in bad situations they could not escape.

Illegals are generally just as much victims of their success as Americans that lost jobs due to them. The typical immigrant worker right now is caught in a vicious cycle of indentured servitude. A single Latino foreman might have 10-12 illegals working for him and he pays them chicken scrap. The workers are getting free room & board and the foreman feels it is only his duty to cover his expenses and therefore has to take first stab at the cash. The expenses, due to a whole mess of exceptional reasons, also unfortunately exceed the workers’ wages. From our history lessons we know how those kind of rackets end up.
The difference was the focus of the decision making tree was in the cockpit for the Western pilot whereas it was up the chain of command 1,000 miles away in the Soviet Union.
Think about it, India is screwing themselves by not jumping on the bandwagon and cloning the Su-30mki, too.
If you are going to propose a Saab original design as your perfect fighter then it should be Viggen, not Draken. The Viggen was so much better all around. I’d of much rather seen the Viggen shrunken to fit the smaller engine than to fly the Draken. I’m amazed more Drakens weren’t lost due to uncontrollable stalls.

For one the prop induces drag on the airframe which gives the plane a totally different flight characteristic. The induced drag increases as the propeller gives more thrust, which is one of the reasons they switched to jets for high performance. The jets on the other hand usually depend on much higher engine performance to reach its best cruise speed due to the efficiency nature of jet engines, making the jet overall much harder on fuel.
Fighters in the 80’s were lucky to break a true 40,000 pounds of thrust on two engines. The problem with going by their claimed thrust is that you cannot promise that thrust throughout any specific flight frame let alone the dynamic conditions when it comes to humidity, temperature, and whatnot unless you are above 36,000 feet. Below that is just playing best guesses because the air at those levels is just too variable. And if you plan the entire mission at those altitudes then you may as well be using standoff weapons that make true stealth less meaningful.
That dismissive comment doesn’t add anything to the conversation.
Look at the MiG-25’s paltry t/w and compare top speeds to the other mentioned machines. It is not all about t/w. Weight isn’t such a bad thing when it comes to maximum velocity.
The F-5B was a large part of training pilots and the T-38 is pretty similar. When you reject the T-38 as a great trainer then do you do so by discounting the relevance of F-5B trainers, too?
I thought the latter plane was an F-15 at first glance but from the few pics I can find of an F-15 at that aspect the nose is way out of proportion. The F-15 nose is much shorter and narrower relative to the body and wing widths. It could very well be a Fulcrum.
