I would think L-15 and Yak-130 are both inferior to Saeghe for the purpose it is to be used.

btw – the Yak-130 uses the plain DV-2, the non-afterburning version of the same engine. It couldn’t possibly be much help as its not much different overall than the non-afterburning J85 except for tighter fuel control.

DV-2F is an option for the Yak-130 that supports afterburning to boost the dry static thrust from 5,500 pounds up to a wet 8,000 pounds apiece. They weigh around 1,400 pounds apiece, not including the gearbox. It has a fan diameter of 25.4 inches (65 cm) and an overall diameter of 40.8 inches (104 cm). Not sure what the length is, but the nonafterburning DV-2 is listed as 67.8 inches (172 cm).

In comparison the GE J85-GE-21 is rated dry at 3,600 pounds and 5,000 pounds wet, with an overall diameter of 26.1 inches (663 cm) and a weight of 640 pounds apiece. So for a gain of roughly 1,520 pounds overall you’d gain a maximum theoretical thrust of 4,000 pounds dry and 6,000 pounds wet.

Your specific fuel consumption moves from 1.240 lb/lbf hr dry and 2.130 lb/lbf hr wet to .588 lb/lbf hr dry to 2.280 lb/lbf hr wet. Airflow goes from 53 lb/s to 117 lb/s, so I’m guessing the Saeghe would need a radically changed inlet.

And its to get Iran’s help in stopping the insurgency within Chechnya which is Iranian-backed. If the Chechnyans separatists lose Iranian money then the whole effort becomes increasingly more manageable to the Russians.

If Russians could get support from Iran for stopping Chechen rebels an engine swap was cheap in comparison to further military action against the terrorists. But the real point on my mind was to bring up losses of F-14’s to the Syrians. These carcasses were bombed to oblivion, but probably not before something got carried off.

I give no credibility to lasers as a static defense. Too easy to destroy the static location for the laser and/or its power handling equipment. And anything with that much power is going to emit some sort of electromagnetic radiation that is easy enough to triangulate. First sign of cloud cover over the site and its neutured by gps-guided cruise missiles.
