The front section appears to have become thicker. While its canopy is identical, then chin is not.
The main difference IMHO is the taller cockpit and the EO globe under the chin. But the older sidebays do look smoothed over, whereas these look functionally defined.
Some of the smaller access points shifted around, but hardly a difference. The engines look like they received shielding. Did they actually add RAM on 056? Maybe it’s a secondary skirt for IR suppression. You only need about 25MM of dead air space to make a huge difference. Then again it could be ultralight high temperature insulation.
What I liked about T-38A was its ultra compact design. The T-50A and T-100 are wider and thicker than most people realize. There is quite a bit of hollow space in either design, making them nearly as large as full size fighters. I bet you could keep a nice slim design by keeping to a smaller girth and using a canard layout like on Eurofighter Typhoon. A single underbody, fixed intake. Thin LERX extending to nose. Delta wing is simpler to design, and easier to design for fatigue resistance. Also, gives room for fuel and it’s a design that allows for excellent instant turn rates. The trick is getting it to sustain the turn to match KPP.
The Tejas has a similarly low TWR as Super Hornet.
I guess its different in this case.

I didn’t mind land-based being MiG-29M1, MiG-29M2, and MiG-35 with naval being MiG-29K. Once you saw the louvers removed it narrows the models down quickly.
The only thing I really like about MiG-29 was its podded engines, making it easy to use several types and with or without TVC.
They even have Kaveri being prototyped under one, as they try to fix its augmenters.
I always preferred this over T-50A:

Closer to an F-16 in capability than the T-50A, but not as developed as a program. Just never got funding to mature to its potential

That was a rather rude, repugnant, and uncouth reply, obligatory. I really expect better.
More or less because Soviet bomber destroyers were ‘systems’. The AAM was built for an individual aircraft. The MiG-29 and Su-27 were the first aircraft built by the competing design bureaus to share radar and weapon suites. MiG-29 used a smaller version of Su-27 weapon suite in some versions. Su-30 I don’t think shared the common base, although they also used the same weapons. Just was a new trend with Soviets when they launched fourth generation designs.
I cannot imagine any trainer not looking like an F-20A. The T-50 isn’t exactly a radical departure. It would be nice if it looked modern like the now terminated MAKO, but T-X must be functional rather than pretty. Most trainers look similar because they all have similar needs in function. We don’t need gold plated solutions.
Ironically the Thunderbirds crash happened just after the prez gave a speech – AT THE SAME EVENT – and had just spoke about promises to support our military in everything it does when word came back about it…
The skin may be metallic looking, but most of it is probably aerogel insulation inserts with a stretched metal or vacuum molded skin tension wrapped over a floating frame. The aerogel is very light, durable, impact and crush resistant, and doesn’t heat up. Think space shuttle tile materials.
When we started ISIS was estimated to be 30K strong. So many bombs later and they estimate the same number. What the hell are they hitting?
