MKI is starting to show it’s age IMHO. If the Chinese import Su-35 then the IAF better have something ready to go by that time.

India has a real dilemma with MKI. The design is high maintenance. Radar is not up to task for running down China’s next generation of cruise missiles, let alone probably will have issues tracking such low observable designs. The engines are being built in India, but the design is clearly three decades old. The sub components, from hydraulics to relays, are all dated designs. And India cannot improve upon them.

You’re still limited to certain transmission characteristics, not much improvement over traditional radars when using AESA, so unless you could juggle frequencies rapidly I don’t see AESA jamming being a replacement for dedicated jamming pods with multi frequency capacity built-in.

Does any agreement prevent members of the EF consortium from imported radars? Could a member, say Italy, buy APG-79 (F/A-18) or APG-81 (F-35) integration rather than pay for European sourcing?

I always thought they should create streamlined interception packages for trailing civilian airliners. Laser designated missiles to pinpoint shoot engines out rather than popping open the whole cabin. But someone correctly pointed out the same strategy would work using the cannon with selectable feeders.

Way better looking than Super Hornet. Some angles are better looking on EF2K than Rafale. They are all better looking than Gripen.

I personally think they need to design for more practical purposes and drop the all everything approach they’ve used since the 80’s. Fighting boogeyman isn’t cost effective. Being integrated into the battlefield management is key, and they can always use stealth cruise missiles to punch through high threat defense networks.
