I feel Poland and Finland should be bolstered to prevent a repeat of the Ukraine. I hope Finland bulks up its army capabilities, not just options in the air.
Russia would be fools not to buy kc-390 and cancel MTA. Just remember that ITAR is ever evolved. What wasn’t on the restrictions can be back dated.
I’m sorry, MSphere, but SARH shots from a single seat MiG-29 is never going to be easy. Wishful thinking R-27ER is significant factor.
With Northrop going clean slate it makes me hold out hope that the Freedom Fighter / Tiger II will be reborn into a MAKO like package with multiple wing configurations possible. Choice between canard, conventional, and hybrid-canard FSW. Or perhaps something like a miniature X-31 demonstrator.
Argentina is rife with corruption and rather than using loans to improve things is wasting the money. And their repayment track record is horrible. Basically, they are bad partners.
And Brazil had to swallow a big pill going for Gripen. Buying into EF would be like swallowing a 2-liter bottle.
To make F-16A compatible with AIM-7 was additional OTS hardware, not a miracle. If tensions ever amounted to the need there was hardware literally in the channel to make it happen. Not making it happen saved money and time rolling out software.
R-11, R-13 and R-25 are much larger than J85, producing far more thrust. The only reason F-5 is considered in the same weight class is because the MiG-21 in every form has been overweight. Consider how old the design and its amazing its even around. F-5 airframes were built with portability in mind, lightweight and quick assembly with tools found in a field workshop.
R-11 approx. 2400 pounds
R-13 & R-25 approx. 2700 pounds
J85-21 approx. 750 pounds
I’ve always thought the potato mashers to be pretty brilliant, but it’s a shame the real estate is so full with so little.

I realize MiG-35 and MiG-29M2 attack this problem. But, really, how hard would it have been to add wingtip rails for R-73 and a twin-rail launcher for R-77 so that two drop tanks per wing were possible? The wing layout wasn’t even modern for the 70’s.
The introduction of J-10 is better than Gripen for the UK. Bigger, less sophisticated targets if things ever get nasty.
Or simplify due to the weight being so much lighter.
Would Czech L-159A combat trainers be effective over rebel territory? It seems like they would provide some relief to the Su-25 fleet. Good price. Cheap enough if they are lost its much less of an asset to lose. They could focus on refurbishment of Su-25’s to fire Western standoff munitions.
If TVC added to survivability it would be universal. Isn’t there export IRST’s? The Soviet system placed adulterated assets in the hands of their allies just in case they needed to save the local citizenry from rogue leaders. I never looked too hard at the MiG-29 IRST and thought it was pretty restricted to conditions where the pilot could see better than it anyhow. It did allow the already overwhelmed pilot to multitask, considering the much higher workload in MiGs.
The mini-JSTARS is cute and all, but it looks too cramped. I’d much rather have a stubby short body than a long cylinder. Too little leg room. I want 3-dimensional holograms displaying battle space. Glow in the dark marker writing on see-through dry erase boards. The epitome of the Star Wars rebel attack command station. Perhaps this is more plausible with a Flying Wing? Anyone?

Overly complex compared to running three types of Tornado configurations for which ONE Typhoon configuration fits? And how many types did Tornado displace when it evolved? People have such short memories…
Cute and cuddly like a BAe 146, only with twin engines and a legitimate ramp.
