Two films at The Greenwich Picturehouse today.
The first is a Czech film Beauty In Trouble.This comedy/drama,with more drama than comedy,passed a pleasant 100 minutes or so and includes 3 songs from Glen Hansard,who did the music and singing in one of my fave films from 2007,Once.
The second was the great The Lives Of Others,a film I’ve seen many times on DVD but never on the big screen.IMHO it’s a film you must see before you die!

For me,music is an aural thing,not visual.I can see where you’re coming from re disabilities etc.When I first saw Brian Wilson (ex Beach Boys) after his stroke,I kinda felt the same.But then I closed my eyes and just listened.Yes,his voice was affected just a tad but the magic was still there in his songs.
“Video Killed The Radio Star”……you betcha.Too many people listen to music with their eyes instead of their ears;) .

They were good in the sixties in their heyday…is it still the original members or are they just another Pub or Club band these days??

Ray Davies has been writing and performing quality songs all his life.His latest album Working Man’s Cafe is a cracker.

Staying with reunions,here’s one I really hope happens.The Kinks may be reforming for a live concert.Now there’s a gig I would gladly pay money to see.

As for old gits, highlight of the year had to be Seasick Steves performance on Jools Hollands Hootenany on New Years Eve, he blew everyone away, including Macca, who I’m sure appreciated a brilliant performance.

Another film as seen in The London Film Festival,I put my bum on my seat to watch Once.
Starring Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova,this could be seen as a follow-up to The Commitments because Hansard played Outspan Foster who played in the band.
Fast-forward 16 years.The band didn’t get back together,so,while working in his Dad’s vacuum cleaner repair shop,he starts to write his own songs and busk them on the Dublin streets.It’s here that he meets a like minded soul,and,slowly,they start to bond,due to their interest in music.
Both are nursing broken hearts and unrealised dreams.They collaborate in their songwriting and end up in a recording studio laying down tracks.All songs are original and performed by our 2 leading artists.
Without a doubt,this is the BEST “date movie” this year! Loadsa great Irish humour,cracking tunes and like-able,every-day charachters.

Finally released on Region 1 DVD,this is the film I’m gonna see 2007 out with tonight.
