Death Note and the follow-up Death Note-The Last Name.Japanese horror.With it’s slow pace and minimal action,it may seem a bit bland to those used to the current Asian shock/horrors with the scarey girl with the long black hair.Fans of the original Manga will be happy that it’s a,more or less,exact replica of their treasured “comic books”.Both films were very enjoyable and I look forward to the “predicted” third installment:)

Zathura.My third favorite kids film after The Goonies and Explorers.Smarter than the average rainy-day kids film.It’s Close Encounters for 10 year olds:)

Wasn’t one of them on display at Mildenhall Air Fete about 10 years ago, must have been for the 50th anniversary of the event, maybe it’s still kicking about in the back of one of their hangars, seem to remember it looked pretty realistic…….

I rember that too.I had just introduced my son to The Right Stuff and can still recall the excitement on his face standing just a few feet away from Glamorouse Glennis.

After watching the very enjoyable Pan’s Labyrinth a few weeks ago I ordered another film by the director Guillermo Del Toro.

The Devil’s Backbone.
With effective direction,drop-dead gorgeous cinematography and quality acting,this ghost story,set in 1930’s Spain,ranks as one of the better horror films I’ve seen in recent years.It’s not your typical scare-a-thon.It leaves you with a sense of haunting rather than fear.If you liked The Others,you should definatley seek out this lesser-known gem for an evening of intelligent,tension-filled suspense.

After a week-end visit by my 2 Grand-Daughters,which was very enjoyable and very expensive (I love to spoil them),we settled down to watch their choice of film,which was the 1986 version of The Fly.BTW,they are both over 18.
Always one of my favorites,this classic horror is brilliantly directed by David Cronenberg.It’s not only horrifing,gooey and gorey but is also touching on an emotional level.It goes into overdrive a little too much at the end and the EFX are a bit dated,but those are very minor considerations.They agreed,with me,that it was a true horror classic.
Then they wanted to watch the sequal The Fly 2 despite my protestations that it was a load of old rubbish.As the credits rolled at the end,they agreed with me:o:o
