On Saturday,I recieved from Korea a 4 disc S.E. of Superman:The Movie.Included on one of the Extras discs was the original 1951 black and white film Superman and the Mole-Men,starring the original Superman,George Reeves.
It took me back to my “Saturday Morning Pictures” days 🙂

More often than not,we all see a film on recomendation by others.This film FROZEN was recommended by the film director Ken Russell to the singer,and avid film fan, Leo Sayer,in the early days of this years Celeb B.B. After a quick search around,I found it on Bensons World.
To quote the Guardian it’s “A thaughtfull,beautiful film that puts Shirley Henderson’s capability as a female lead beyond question”. Shirley Henderson????? Who she ??????
She’s better known to Harry Potter fans as Moaning Myrtle,the spirit that lives in the school toilets.
Frozen is a story about a girl trying to find out why her sister disappeared without a trace.While this film may not be the fast-paced thriller that resolves all of the lingering questions in an easy way,it is a surreal meditation on grief and death.Another cracking low-buget British film to rank alongside London To Brighton

What a “Grand Old Lady”.Apart from the black flecks,she looks like my Freddy.Have you got any pictures of her in her prime? Shed your tears,take a deep breath,and start all over again;) Maybe with a “re-homed” furry little friend:cool:

The Rocketeer

Despite being both an aviation enthusiast and a film buff, I’d NEVER seen this before, yet it seems to have quite a following on here so I thought it might be worth acquiring on DVD. Amazon came up trumps (very cheap, in brand-new condition) and it popped through the door today.

Must say, I REALLY rather enjoyed it. It’s great escapist entertainment, with some pretty darn good special effects for the time (1991) and some nice classic racing planes buzzing about, too. Definitely worth another watch pretty soon! 🙂

Just when I thaught I had nothing new to watch,apart from a couple of Korean films,good old Mr. Postman dropped FLYBOYS onto my doormat,a film I have been longing to see.
Somewhere within Flyboys is a half decent film about a groupe of young men,willing to risk their lives to fight alongside the French in WW1,in air battles against the better,faster,nastier flying machines of the German Empire.
Cut out the totally unnecessary and yawn-enducing “love story” then Flyboys wouldn’t be half bad.This interesting true story is given the standard Hollywood treatment and takes the easy route by cramming in as many wartime cliches as possible.There isn’t a move or a beat that I didn’t see coming right from the start.
It’s only when the action takes to the air that the film manages to take off.The dog fights are very good and the CGI work looks visually convincing,but you have to wait for over half an hour before the first one takes place ( lots of thumb twiddling for an avaition film ).
Flyboys is fun and technically well made and,given the chance,would love to see it on a really big screen.My local film houses have no plans to show it yet.
The final shot of the film shows a photograph of the actual Aces of the Lafayette Escadrille and it’s very jarring.With this one image,you are suddenly re-awakened to the odd fact that the romantic comic book adventure you have just watched has some actuall basis in the lives and deaths of real men.Instead of being the inspiring image this film was clearly intended to be,it makes the last two hours seem somewhat cheap and exploitative.

I love the wingcommander’s pet mascot ( in reality there were two ).Soooooo much cooler than your average black labradore.

Forgot to mention that two scenes ( the large boat and the hostpital ) were filmed in good old Greenwich 😎 .

Bad news man.It’s always sad when you lose a furry friend.I’ve always had cats and,when the time comes to say goodbye,the tears flow.As mentioned earlier,how’s about taking in a “rescued” cat.My latest,Freddy,was rescued from death’s door ( by our local cat protection league ) and was slated to be put down because he was diagnosed as FIV+ ( cat AIDS ).He’s a 6 year old ginger tom and has put up with me for the past 6 months.Have to keep him indoors,of course,for the fear of spreading FIV or he contracting a bug,which his “totally shot” immune system can’t handle.So that’s 6 months ( and counting ) playtime and funtime a lot of people didn’t want him to have.
