Just catching up on a few films that “you must see befor you die”.Watched Dr.Strangelove tonight and…..well……..hmmmmmm.Can’t see what all the fuss is about.It’s described as a black comedy but I don’t remember even giggaling.Maybe I had an off night so I’ll have to sit through it again.

And on a Star Wars theme,happy birthday Carrie Fisher ( Princess Leia ) The big 50 today 😎

And another oldie I saw this week was The Haunting,the original version made in 1963 and ranks in my top 5 horror films.

If you’re looking for garish special effects that bury the characters,stick with the Jan DeBont remake tripe.

If you prefere your horror psychological,try watching this film with the lights out,let yourself sneak into Eleanor’s disordered mind and feel the chills.
This is a horror movie with a brain and something Hollywood made few of back then and makes even fewer today.

The classic movie quote….”God……God……Who’s hand was I holding?”

Yeah,First Blood was made in 82.Another great film made two years earlier was The Long Good Friday.

“For more than ten years there’s been peace.Everyone to his own patch.We’ve all had it sweet.I’ve done every single one of you favors in the past.I’ve put money in all your pockets.I’ve treated you well,even when you was out of order,right?
Well now there’s been an eruption……….”

It hits you like a broken bottle neck in your throat and a couple of machete whacks on your bare bottom.It’s violent moments are as shocking today as they were over 25 years ago.It’s not only the amount of blood,it’s the random unpredictability.Plus the fact that the story is character-driven makes the violence all the more palpable and disturbing.

BROTHERHOOD (2004)

Despite being Korean, it was probably one of the best films I’ve seen to date (the only fault that I could pick out being the obviously computerised aircraft). It was also the first film in a while where I’ve actually wanted to cry at the end 😀 😀 😀 Mark 😀

I would change “Despite being” to “Because it’s”.Another cracking Asian movie,free of all Hollywood ideas/constraints.A big thumbs-up from me 😀

Ahhh I am back in the movie watching business. It was hard being a cube resident while the semester was coming to an end. FREEDOM! atlast.

Internal Affairs/Mou gaan dou – a hong kong movie with english subs.

This is the film that Scorsese copied and called it The Departed.Here,I must give myself a slap on the wrist because as you may know,I am a big fan of “Asian” films but ,as yet,I have not seen it.( Ordering it as we speak 😉 )
