I quite like Armageddon and Pearl Harbor too.

Me too.Lots of people knock Pearl Harbour(sic).It wasn’t made as history on film,but a piece of entertainment based on history.Who can forget the attack of the Zeros and THAT bomb dropping onto the deck of the carrier? A corny story at times….yeah! But when the action kicks in,it’s a great “Saturday Morning Pictures” film.

The first twenty minuets totally astound me and do so the older i get,i like the way the characters eyes become more haunted as the film progressed .Also its shot on a different type of film to give it a grainy effect.

Spielberg reduced the coluor saturation by 60% for artistic reasons ( to make it look like Newsreel of the day ),BUT major American satellite and cable-providers turned UP the chroma gain to re-enhance the colour ( sorry,color :rolleyes: ) saturation to “normal looking levels” when broadcasting the film.They did this because,on the first couple of days of the film’s broadcast,their customer service centers were swamped with calls saying “Something is wrong with the colour (Color)!”
Also,SPR was the LAST film to be edited on a non-digital editing system to win an Academy Award for editing.After this,it was “goodbye razor blades and cutting blocks.R.I.P.” Hello AVID.

I agree with most here.They lived as a crew and died as a crew.Leave things as they are.They’re already with their “family”.

We know a lot about Steve and his crazy antics,but what do you know about “Stingrays?” See HERE.Seems like they would prefer to run away than have a go back.Maybe Steve took one too many liberties with a wild animal that he was unfamiliar with.Without a doubt,he certainly had a way with all manner of creepy-crawlies on land.It has been reported that,as a child,he would prefere to “play” with the surrounding wildlife than the kids in his neighbourhood.Maybe he went a step too far,trying a change in tack for the TV people buy going into creepy-crawlies in the water.

Apart from the pun about legs that post is worthless. You want it closed down? Sorry, how many of the 640-odd posts did you contribute? What possible reason should we allow you to tell us to close it down? In the words from aviation historian Nikki from Big Brother ‘Who ARE you! Who IS this PERSON?”. Some of us are actually enjoying this, the most refreshing thread for a couple of YEARS in my opinion. Why not contribute and enjoy it, or ignore and forget it? Looks to me by the stats to be a rather successful thread. Looks to me by the posts themselves to be a very interesting, detailed and amusing thread on a wealth of subjects – historical, archaeological (ish), technical, humourous, etc etc etc.

This thread still has loads of legs. Keep them up in the air, and run with it.
