I wish the UK would give her independence, establish border controls and sit back and watch Scotland implode in on itself.

Not very fair for those of us up here who don’t support the SNP and don’t wish to move. I’m banking on the fact that the Scottish Conservatives will keep holding Sturgeon’s feet very close to the fire.

I’m tired of the SNP MPs making us all look foolish with their pantomime displays and ‘gallus’ speeches in parliament.

If you are going to wholesale plagiarise a news article you could at least provide a link to the original source. Still, its a step up from the usual Pat Condell guff and far-right propaganda videos.

    9/11 ring any bells? Meddle?

The UK has had some shootings as well, if you insist on balancing the books.

The privately run prisons are contracted by the states, they offer a service for less than the state could do it (largely because of the massive labour/pension overheads state organizations have).

Perhaps it wouldn’t be such an expensive business if the US didn’t incarcerate such high numbers of its inhabitants? Couldn’t you save a few bob (err… nickels?) here and there by actually rehabilitating prisons rather than creating a social underclass of unemployables? I just finished reading Are Prisons Obsolete? by Angela Y. Davis. You are free to disagree with most of the sentiments in the book (really a glorified essay) if you wish, but she does make a fairly convincing argument for the notion that there is a vested interest in the US judicial system locking up as many folk as possible, in part due to lobbying from police and prison guard unions and in part due to the for-profit nature of a lot of your prisons. The US has been busily building prisons at a far higher rate than any other developed country, and I don’t think you have to be too cynical to imagine that a country that builds numerous prisons then has to actively find numerous criminals to put in them.

Even though I ended with a question, end of discussion.

    Nothing of value lost there.

At the same time I’m wondering if a US forumite is going to start an ‘Only in Europe’ thread in light of the latest terror atrocity in France? If the concept of such a thread seems tasteless, then perhaps this thread is tasteless to American posters? Perhaps it is always easier to solve a country’s problems remotely.

An interesting point. I suppose that there isn’t a trope about gaffe-prone Germans. I did some quick Googling, and Merkel has made some astonishing slips of the tongue.

I’m wondering if we will see a sharp change in Boris’s public personality now that he has been given this role. The bumbling buffoonery is a useful distraction from some of his more disturbing opinions and behaviours. I’m wondering if he is gearing up to remove the teddy bear suit.

Is it a coincidence that he gaffe-prone Boris has been appointed the role of Foreign Secretary? May has taken one of the most vocally pro-Brexiters and put them in a position where they will do something embarrassing on the world stage. Perhaps she has given him enough rope to hang himself with? He is now in a position where one slightly archaic racial slur, one mistimed or misjudged tweet or one door-stepping journalist can kill a political career pretty swiftly… watch this space!

I’m not an expert on how Youtube works, but can’t you make money out of it ?

Indeed, in the form of advert revenue.

Pat Condell is a failed comedian. If you look up ‘broken record’ in the Oxford Dictionary of Idioms then you will probably find a picture of his smug visage. It would be nice if he offered up some solutions to the issues he somewhat tediously reiterates in every video, but he clearly isn’t much of an ideas man and, instead, reverts to the lowest common denomination of Islam bashing. This distinct lack of creativity might explain his failed comedy career.

In a very small minority of products surely…

…the iPad I’m typing this into was made in China…..like almost every other ‘high-end’ product!

I’m probably a bit biased as I tend to think about it in terms of audio and musical equipment. There is no reason for Chinese-made products to be inferior, but if you tell them you want an iPad, and you want them to cost £5 a unit then they will build something for you. Quite what that something is will be open to interpretation both at their and and yours! Retail websites like Trade Tang, Ali Express and Alibaba are replete with counterfeit and otherwise low-grade goods.

So, are we supposed to take this video on face value ?

Apparently! You have to consider which is more likely: a) The boyfriend is exploiting his girlfriend’s intellectual deficiencies for Internet fame and fortune (in the from of Youtube ad revenue) or b) They are both in on it.

There’s a flaw there, You have just essentially said it’s not a left-right thing (and I agree).

Maybe I would be less assertive there; I think more that the decision to remain or leave the EU shouldn’t have been a left-right thing, and on reflection I am disappointed that the Brexit debate was so enthusiastically pigeonholed in this manner. The more I’ve thought about it the more I can think of arguments from both political sides that argue counter to the political orientation the Leave and Remain camps naturally fell into. If nothing else things would have been a lot more interesting if Corbyn had voiced some of his concerns about the EU.

I’m lucky in that I can avoid both ignorant racists and student ideologues as I go about my daily business. I wouldn’t choose to spend too much time with either.

I trust you would be this solicitous had the girl in the video been a Remain voter?

I do find this forum somewhat inconsistent at times.

This thread should be immediately taken off and the boyfriend kicked in the goulies.
As it is blatant abuse of a young lady, who has the courage to actually VOTE.

You cannot even make a joke about ill-informed voters without somebody chucking their toys out the pram. PC gone mad, I tell you!
