Respect is not a word I can prescribe to music, but even if I could the same problem would arise because I’d still have to “respect” an individual’s music whether I liked it or not, simply because it was of a genre I liked. Which simply makes no sense to me. So we’ll have to agree to differ..

    Missed this before…

There are bands that I don’t like, within genres that I do like. For example I like a lot of progressive rock, and I really enjoy the music of Gentle Giant, Yes, Genesis, Van Der Graaf Generator, Soft Machine, Gong etc. I don’t like the music of Emerson Lake and Palmer that much. I respect them as musicians, but I don’t like the music they made together. I don’t think they are bad, just not something I can get into.

I thought Britain First was simply the BNP in a new clothes…….

Flat caps and flasher macs by the looks of it.

Anyway, a ‘turned on’ friend of mine posted a Russell Brand video on Facebook. Luckily corporate IT blocks Youtube content so I didn’t have to see it. My ‘friend’ is one of the angry “we are the 45%” Scots Nats that are wanting a new referendum in the next four weeks etc etc… a workshy hard-done-by whiner. I knew he would get into the Brand rubbish and lo, I was proven right. This guy is angry in a fairly abstract way. He wants to ‘end Tory rule’ yet will only vote SNP or, presumably, demonstrate Brand’s method of voter apathy. “The tories dinnae care about us working class Scots, ken?”, which again becomes a hair-shirt wearing competition and something of a farce. Although, I doubt the conservatives really do care about thick Fifers.

Britain First talk a good game. They have the ‘click bait’ market down pat.

I think he is bi-sexual, but given that he had Clare Balding commenting on my abdominals for days on end…

You do have to wonder if they would stop a single Asian man from entering the same park. Probably not. Likewise, you are ignoring a lot of history if you think that women are incapable of cruelty towards children, extending as far as paedophile acts.

Then again, I remember the 2012 London Olympics for the gaggle of female presenters lusting after Tom Daley’s then 18 year old body. Imagine if it were the other way round, and male presenters made off-colour remarks about 18 year old female divers. That wouldn’t have worked out so well.

I am puzzled as to what made you angry…you had no time to make the visit or you could have made a visit if you’d had someone to go with…?? Or am I missing something….?:)

I had no time to make a visit. I could have drummed up a bit of interest I wager as at least one other guy I was down with was into his aircraft. However it wouldn’t have worked out with my superiors. Conferences make me angry for a a few reasons, now that I think about it…

I was at a conference this week very near Baginton (I was just outside Kenilworth). However, I had no down time and couldn’t muster anybody else to go on a trip to see WR963. Very frustrating as the whole museum looks interesting.

Like it or lump it, those kids are probably going to be in for a rough time when they move to the cities to attend university.

But these islands are probably the best example of the “melting pot” social culture long before the Americas were overrun by incomers.

Given OP’s apparent penchant for right-leaning politicians who sold a nostalgic view of the country as being greater and more quintessentially English at some undefined point of time safely in the past (think Thatcher), then your notion of the country being a ‘melting pot’ will probably go over rather uneasily, as much as we are a horrid ragtag bunch of mongrels.

You don’t have to be religious or a Christian to acknowledge the importance of St.Edmund as a symbol of Englishness.

A distant relation of Noel Edmunds, another symbol of Englishness (like the kebab and khorma)?

    Charlie,

Let me sooth your anxiety. If, in the worst possible case, UKIP find themselves in Parliament with a clear majority but no particular other policies apart from our removal from the EU’s embrace, the country will continue to function exactly as before – seamlessly.

Eventually and in good time – the best possible way, UKIPs policies will slide into place.

The SNP said exactly the same thing and it was dismissed as porridge gargle, probably by ‘your lot’.

    Re 9 & 11

    Such blissful ignorance !

Very droll, coming from a Thatcherite who seems to think UKIP are going to sweep into power.

Let us hope that commonsense prevails…

An entirely subjective concept that aged right whingers such as yourself seem to cling to and fetishise for some reason, though only ever in the context of it being lost or eroded. Care to elaborate? I hazard a guess that you are old enough to remember a time when eugenics was considered common sense, after all.

    RE 25

I’m thinking of sending you a PM with the name of my psychiatrist. After years of pyschotherapy she’s given up on me but, with you she’ll think all her birthdays and Christmas’ have arrived together.

I presume you never answered any of her questions either! :stupid:

If nothing else it demonstrates the not so latent hostility and contempt for the British working classes…

Nothing like your beloved Maggie then.
