We are starting to see the result of schools allowing pupils to drop history in year 2.

That seems a little unfair. The Daily Mail’s online content always seems to be rushed out. I’ve seen articles being edited once posted. For example, there was an article about the Great British Bakeoff that, apropos of nothing, commented on the contestant Flora’s ‘yellow teeth’. That sentence was erased within a couple of hours. Shoddy, speedily written articles with no quality assurance. Claims are left unverified, ‘jump jets’ and ‘loop the loops’ are left in, even after repeated derision from the aviation community.

I’m surprised that the Daily Mail is still tolerated in this neck of the woods post Shoreham. From the ridiculous ‘flame out caught on tape’ debacle to the other forms endless and baseless speculation filling column (webpage) inches. If that isn’t this forum’s Hillsborough then I don’t know what will do it.

Surely reducing air and water pollution is a good thing though, even if the science isn’t in 100% agreement on the potential long-term impact? I’m always amused by those that profess an undying love for the green and pleasant land of England, but view any sort of environmental measure as some sort of shady liberal conspiracy to spuriously tax. Very odd.

Thanks for that mental image. Drooling during or post coitus is not healthy. Were you having a stroke at the time?

I don’t think I ever claim expertise in any aviation-related field! As mentioned before, I don’t fly, I cannot fly and I’m really only interested in a fairly small corner of historic aviation. I like watching historic aircraft performing at airshows, but I fail to give a shiny ****e about paint scheme, engine types or other matters that some seem to obsess over on here. I don’t recall ever getting my ‘comeuppance’ on here, or if I did I didn’t notice. Point me in the direction of such claims, though I imagine your love of right wing gutter press means you are slightly adversed to taking an evidence-based approach to anything.

That would be a very reasonable and entirely understandable assumption to make with respect to that model of excellence; the Daily Mail.

    Q) How do you know when the floors in your house are level?

    A) When John Green is drooling out of both sides of his mouth.

    I jest. I jest.

Do we need the garish, oversized screen shots accompanying topspeed’s every post? I get it, you can fly some obscure and extinct marques in a flight sim environment, but none of them are going to appear on the UK airshow circuit without major funding and some solid, joined-up project management. A sad number of projects appear to suffer from a lack of either, or both. Without wishing to sound bitter, there seems to be a healthier attitude towards the restoration of historic British designs in commonwealth countries than there is here. Often it seems like there is an overly earnest optimism directed towards underfunded groups of relatively elderly volunteers fighting, against all odds, to make progress on restoration projects. All very noble, but I do find it odd that this forum will happily, and endlessly, re-iterate the fact that the airshows of today are nothing compared to those of the ’60s and ’70s yet get giddily excited because a pensioner with a lot of free time has made a cockpit replica or cleaned the rust off a handful of some exhumed parts. I think this thread demonstrates that, if nothing else, historic aviation fans really shouldn’t be trusted to formulate airshow programmes!

There is any number of historic aircraft I would want to see fly. Basically anything Britain made from WW2 through the Cold War era. The chances of seeing another Canberra in the air are slim, the Lightning non existent and the TSR-2 a ridiculous dream.

My lasting memory of Bath is that of steep hills. How do they get their mobility scooters up them?

Does anybody have an ID on this part? For a forum that can identify bits of battered rust no bigger than a fingernail I’m surprised at the sluggish response thus far.

Clearly it is evidence of exciting developments in the Congo space program!

Wonderful photographs. The closest I’ve been to Arran is Ayr beach though, I must confess, it makes a wonderful backdrop to airshow photographs! Ailsa Craig looks fascinating.

There is thread drift and there is the continual posting video game screen-shots. :applause:

What is the time scale for Just Jane and, realistically, will it ever fly? I’m guessing there is a risky window whereby it has to disappear from public view for a while to undergo inspections and work and it could simply fade from public view and collective memory during this period? Could it even fly out of East Kirby, or is the proposed restoration work to be carried out elsewhere? I must profess ignorance at this point, but a home-grown 2 Lanc formation, a 2 Lanc + Shack formation and, potentially, a 3 Lanc (if the Canadians do their stuff again) formation would be impressive to see!
