RE: AF and low budget airlines

Doesn’t Air Lib Express operate low cost flights? Also you have Easyjet and Buzz doing low cost flights in France. But I see what you mean, there doesn’t seem to be as many low cost carriers compared to other European countries.

That would be good news if it did happen.Australia needs a third airline.Would Virgin Blue have anything to do with this?

Yes Gama and Titan operate KingAirs rather than 1900’s,I should of made that clearer.
Air Wales do operate the Beech 1900.They have been leased three from Avanti Air.Two is in the fleet at the moment(D-CBIG and D-CBSG)Another is due in November,D-CBSF,to replace D-CBSG.The other two are in the fleet till January and March.

    RE: Home-cooking

I would think the UK would be more curry than pizza!!

Here are two traditional Guernsey recipies.Being surrounded by water, the main dish has to be fish.
    Ingredients:
    Four Ormers,Flour,Butter,Fish Stock Cube,one Onion,one slice of bacon ,Water,Seasoning.

    Method:
*Remove Ormers from their shells and scrub thoroughly
Wrap in baking parchment, cover with a dry cloth and beat until tender.

*Soak the Ormers for several hours

*Remove Ormers from soaking, retaining the water for use as stock.

*Season the flour then sprinkle over the Ormers and fry in the butter until lightly brown (approx 2 mins each side).

*Place the browned Ormers in a casserole dish with some finely chopped onion and chopped bacon. Pour over the the soaking stock and crumble a fish stock cube into the juice.

*Place the casserole in a very low oven (100C) for 4 hours.
Thicken the gravy if necessary and serve with mashed potatoes and green vegetables.

I’ve had it a few times and its delicious! The trouble is that it takes so long to make. Not many restraunts actually serve this anymore.

This bread is so tasty!!You can buy it in packs over here. Its our very own fruite bread called Guernsey Gâche.

    Ingredients:
1lb plain flour, half pound butter, 12 oz Sultanas, 2 oz mixed peel, 1oz fresh yeast, 1tsp Sugar, 1 tsp Salt, Half Pint Warm Water.

    Method:

*Run the butter into the flour, then make a well in the center.

*Add the yeast mix and the water gradually to form a stiff dough
Fold in the sultanas and mixed fruit then cover with a clean cloth and leave in a warm place for 2 hours until the mixture has doubled in size.

*Turn into a greased 1lb loaf tin and bake for 30 minutes at 200C until browned and firm.

    Enjoy!!!

    RE: The Antonov 148

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-09-02 AT 12:06 PM (GMT)]I’m going from a source I found. The Antonov deputy designer general Viktor Kazurov, said “the AN-148 is primarily meant for Ukraine and other CIS member-countries”
As Kabir said,it should be marketed to other third world countries as a replacement for older aircraft. The likes of Boeing and Airbus (or Embraer,Bombadier, looking at the size of the aircraft) are way to expensive for third world countries,so a cheaper option would be these new CIS aircraft.

RE: Who has the longest ?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-09-02 AT 10:19 AM (GMT)]Thanks for that information.I was sure there was a place in Spain which was equipped for shuttle landings.I remember hearing about it on the news when a shuttle was not able to come back to earth due to bad storms around Florida for a few days. They talked about a few alternatives if the bad weather were to stay,Moron Air Base must of been one of the alternatives.

True,I forgot about the Dornier.Again the AN-148,like a lot of CIS aircraft in the past few years, looks like it has western influence.

RE: Who has the longest ?

Isn’t there some runway in Spain, which in the event of an emergancy or prolonged bad weather at Cape Canavral,is deemed suitable by NASA for a shuttle landing?
