RE: Regional airlines
I flew GCI-MAN on British regional BAe ATP around 5 years ago.We got a salmon roll and a yoyo (a mint chocolate bar)if i remember right and drinks.Nice flight but 2 hours flying up to Manchester is a pretty long flight.Air UK,what a good airline that was,GCI-SOU around a 45 minute flight on a fokker 50.I was asked if i would like to go up to the cockpit.A light snack and drinks were served as well. When KLM UK took over the service went downhill, now we have British European on the route and that is very profitable.

PGA serve ice cream on flights!LGW-GCI is a 50 minute journey and all we get is some horrible nuts and a drink, now that does put cityflyer and BRAL to shame 🙂

RE: which is the best airport
My local airport Guernsey is pretty small but takes in a whole range of airlines.VLM,Crossair,British airways,British European,Gill airways,Aurigny,Channel express are the main operaters to the airport.Terminal is small and old but there are plans for a new terminal.
Jersey has a large and modern terminal which makes me feel like i am in LGW or another large modern airport!although on a winters day there is hardly anyone in the terminal and its freezing.Airlines include the same as guernsey as well as Emerauld airways,Air Bretagne,Braathens,BMI,Manx and Palmair plus numerous charters from monarch and others. If you would like to see the flights at JER then this website hs a airport web cam plus flight times.

RE: CHAT ROOM FOR AIRLINER WORLD
Not being rude but i don’t think it is a popular idea with others on the forum after i brought the same subject up,maybe its differnt now?.Personaly after i experienced airliners.net i never went on another chat room again, anyone could come on that the chat room and start swearing and annoying and the number of Airbus VS Boeing wars that went on was very boring. Not saying yours would be like that 🙂

RE: Virgin in Star Alliance?
I have changed my mind,i think Virgin would be best in the Star alliance.looking round the VS website i came across all their alliance partners: BMI,Continental,Malaysian,Ansett Australia and Singapore.
The conflict with BD and VS can’t be that bad as Bhoy said there is an alliance with British Midland on long haul flights which link up with a number of regional airports in Europe,Amsterdam, Belfast, Brussels, Dublin, Edinburgh, Teesside, Glasgow, Leeds–Bradford, Manchester, Milan, Madrid and Rome.
Virgin fly to Hong Kong then with their agreement with Ansett means passengers can change flights to either Sydney or Melbourne.I know Virgin and Ansett want to start a service between Heathrow and Sydney and Melbourne and Anestt the same, maybe a possible code share agreement?
With Singapore airlines well they have a 49% stake in Virgin and numerous code share agreements with them.
Although i have said Virgin would be best in star, again i don’t think this would happen soon,Virgin’s profits are good and with new routes and aircraft such as the A380 i don’t think all these alliances are affecting it much at the moment.

RE: 4 die in Binter Regional crash
LAST EDITED ON 29-08-01 AT 07:53 PM (GMT)[p]Sorry, first when i heard this news on the radio it a said Melilla in Morocco. The passengers were very lucky, looking at the pictures its amazing that some people only walked out with cuts.Unfortunatly the captain is amoung the dead. There was another incident with CN-235 in Turkey a few months ago i believe where there was loss of life which again can lead to people giving the aircraft a bad reputation.Polititians over here in the channel islands also see that something with a propeller is old and unsafe. There have been a few engine failures on Aurigny trislanders which has resulted in them making an emergancy landing on the beach,as a result they want to see rid of Aurigny and so do not grant them any new routes which is a shame.

Brittannia new livery
What can i say with BY’s new livery?i think it looks rubbish and yet again like BA has got rid of anything that resembles that it is British.Yes i thought that BY’s livery was out dated but this new livery is even worse.I found an Hapag-Lyodd 737-500 photo,a partner in the TUI group,on airliners.net.

RE: which is the best airport
Cork airport is a small yet very busy airport,it is one of the fastest growing regional airports in Europe.Airlines at Cork include,Aer Lingus,British Airways,British European,Aer Arran and charters from airlines such as Futura and Air 2000.The airport terminal has a very good duty free shop a bar which gives good views over the apron and a very good cafe.Cork was is definately one of my favourite regional airports.
A couple of years ago i went to Malaga airport,it was alright but very busy,a very long wait at the check in,but i expected this as it is a holiday airport.Good selection of shops and cafes, and if i remeber right there was quite large windows which gave a views over the apron and runway.
Although i would not say these airports were as good as gatwick or Frankfurt,i would still rate them.CDG in october,i can’t wait to see it!

RE: Virgin in Star Alliance?
If Virgin every did join an alliance they would be best in Skyteam. If they joined wings then would be with KLM,Northwest and Malaysia, which if the proposed merger between KLM and BA goes ahead, then they would all join Oneworld. If ever they joined an alliance,I would hope it to be Skyteam with Aero Mexico,Air France,CSA,Delta,Korean air and soon Alitalia.

RE: Virgin in Star Alliance?
The star alliance would not be suitable for Virgin as Keltic said. There is a lot of compition between BD and VS,just last month BD in a suprise move, was granted the Heathrow-Mexico city route which was expected to go to VS.This has alarmed Virgin as it previously regarded itself as the second main trans-atlantic airline.I believe that if VS do want to stay 2nd then they will have to join an alliance, such as the wings alliance.
