Well Jazz will become Canada’s “national low cost airline”
I don’t think it is unfair, I think that pilots recieve more and therefore should put out more in concessions. The pilots are making a great deal more to lets say, a ramp worker. They account for nearly 25% of the labour costs at Air Canada. If their airline is in need of desperate help and their jobs are on the line then those with the most should probably give the most so to speak . In the end they have more to lose by not accepting the deal.
If an equal percentage were to be agreed then pilots would come out with an okay salary to keep them going, what about your average ramp worker? A salary below the cost of living. Sure it might not look good and fair that 10% must take higher cuts but it seems reasonable considering they make up 25% of the actual labour costs.
To my actual understanding the younger pilots have agreed to much of the concessions and they will sadly be hit hard but they have seen what is at stake. However, senior members who have a very good salary seem to be holding on. Just does not seem logical though who knows what the real picture is, that is just my opinion.
US Airways has been expected for a while now.
But still if they only make up 10% of the workforce with 31% concessions pilots will be making more than other employees. They contribute much higher on labour costs but do not seem satisfied, yet people who are paid much less are willing to take cuts to a lesser percentage.
It is an interesting idea and no doubt this will not be the last occasion that this type of link up happens. This allows passengers so much more connecting options and more flexibility plus probably cheaper fares.
Although I am uninformed when it comes to the Air Canada details, it always surprises me (not only in the case of Air Canada) that employees, in this case the pilots, are not willing to take concessions in pay. It seems as if everyone else has taken cuts, yet pilots are willing to aid their airline to death because of earnings. Just seems ignorant though that may not be the full picture.
With the effects of other factors, taxation, SARS, war and a general downturn in aviation it has been such a hard struggle for Air Canada. With the size of Canada it seems sad that you could be left without national airline.
My sympathies to AC and the Canadian people if it sadly does come to the end.
Well if you need any help with spotting info etc I would be pleased to help. I am over there a few times a year spotting so I know some of the places.
It is all to do with history. It is an historic region in the south east of Europe, in the Balkan Peninsula. Half of the region lies in northern and northeastern Greece and the country of Macedonia plus a small portion of Bulgaria make up the region.
I always found it rather funny when I saw the Macedonian aircraft with Greek registrations and how they seemed so regular in Greece, then I realised it reffered to the region rather than country.
And the Aeromexico slogan “Feel the warmth of Aeromexico”
The angel in the corner is a slight clue- that is the Monumento a la Indapendencia (Spelling?) in Mexico City. By that my guess is either Mexicana or Aeromexico?
I think that is the number altogether. Might be less but still it is a large number!
Nice avatar Greekdude 😉 Only just realised it was the steelpan.
It seems as if BWIA have been saved. The government had talks with ILFC and they have agreed to release their aircraft and give them until September to generate revenue over the summer period. It seems as if the government will takeover BWIA fully and inject cash into the airline.
Flights for August I believe, later than was anticipated. Bookings should begin in June.
I think the size of this order might be to do with building up another industry in the country rather than just oil. If you can build up tourist and commerce industry, which seems to be quite fulfilling in Dubai at the moment, then they would be protected themselves for the future and would have another industry to rely upon when the oil runs out.
Dubai, a tourists dream, fantastic hotels, attractions, beaches and that new palm development for wealthy celebrities. If you start building up the airline now then you will be prepared. The amount of aircraft they have currently ordered may sound a lot (where the hell will they fly over 40 A380s?) but in the future it will be a necessity with a growing tourist industry and an excellent hub for connections. Buying these aircraft now is going against logic in the aviation world but Emirates are profitable and will continue to be so such an order would end up being a very good deal.
Mongu,
Macedonia (or MakedonÃa) is a region of Greece up in the north east area on the boarders with the actual country of Macedonia and Bulgaria.
