Yup Northern England. Scotland is best with just Easyjet and Ryanair. Much more respectable if you ask me…
But Virgin’s whole operation is based on originality and excessiveness. Why do you think people love the airline? Because it is so unlike anything else on the market. That is why it’s publicity and marketing is so extravagant and controversial and people love it.
You can’t compare the BA operation to Virgin’s because BA is a national carrier, a very conservative airline.Virgin on the other hand, is brash and ostentatious, which applies to the whole brand.
I think Branson’s marketing is brilliant and may he long continue to grace the UK with such an impressive and wonderful carrier that gains respect across the world because of it’s difference.
That is how much BA got them for. Good publicity Mr Branson though you would be mad to buy the aircraft if you ever got the oppurtunity.
A shame to see former Manx routes lose so much after they were fully integrated into British Airways, but then again you can’t blame people for choosing EuroManx over BA.
Any new aircraft or routes for the airline?
Cool photo. A rather different aspect than usual.
I question Teeside as an airport for bmibaby. Ok, brilliant for Teeside but frankly one would question the point. Seems to be scrapping the barrel of low cost hubs if you ask me and shows little initiative and a huge lack of options. Saturation point is well and truly upon us and consolidation will soon be coming. Like hell you are going to fill a 737 up to Prague up from Teeside considering that Newcastle has this route already. It’s just madness and a complete killing of a good idea already in use at Easyjet.
Bmibaby have lost options. Why they need a forth base in as many months is beyond me. Cardiff, East Midlands, Manchester and Teeside, now let us consider and Ryanair how long it took them to establish a new base, or even Easyjet. Bmi are not concentrating on one area, they are concentrating on four all in close proximity to other long established low cost bases. Is there really a need in the market?
Gosh, at least Flybe. saw a good market opportunity at Southampton.
4 hours at Gatwick waiting for our Virgin Atlantic 747-200 flight to Barbados. I’ve also had a 4 hour wait at Barcelona for our Iberia flight, but frankly I can think of worst places to be stuck.
I’m not sure if the “No Way BA/AA” would apply in this case. At the time it was a protest against BA and AA’s proposed alliance across the Atlantic and the huge number of flights it would control. Generally I think Virgin’s stance on the matter has changed since Oneworld was formed.
Well they’ve got what they asked for, a code-share like UA/BD and CO/VS. But they don’t have ATI, which ultimately they want.
But anyway, it is good news for both airlines and makes Oneworld seem a bit less of a joke.
Well done bmibaby on your 4th base in not even a year…whooh yeah. The operation has success written all over it
Another sad day for UK aviation. Thats every airport in the north with a low cost operation now.
BA and AF only. It would be nothing but an insult to the bird to put some other airline colours on her. After being such a momentous emblem of both airlines for so long, can you imagine the likes of Virgin getting their grubby hands on the aircraft? Ok, great initiative for enterprise Richard B. but it would ridicule what she once stood for.
Yeah sad news, but look on the bright side, it has lasted through a hell of a lot of bad points in its history (a crash, 9/11, etc), could of been retired long ago. At least now it can retire with a little dignity.
Should stop the flag carriers having the monopoly of the routes in Eastern Europe and will probably make them revamp their prices or change their marketing strategies. Though how the national carriers like Malev or Estonian will be affected is what worries me.
It’s the way I’ve worded it Mongu, sorry. I will explain it again.
Ryanair is an Irish registered company not UK, they have an Irish AOC. Ryanair before the acquisition of Buzz did not have the right to operate outside of the EU from the UK to Poland as an example . Now when they bought Buzz they retained their UK AOC which gave them the right to operate to non-EU countries.
It is the same with DBA and Air Atlanta Iceland.
This is actually their first 777 for Vietnam.
