    RE: newbie

Greetings silverton228, always great to see a new member to the forums.
To answer your question, many airports see a reduction of up to 30% in their traffic during the Christmas and New Year period as many people choose to travel before or after the festive periods. I would of thought, therefore, BA probably are running fewer flights on the day because of the reduction in passenger numbers. However, many people trying to get a cheap deal will fly on New Years Day because of fewer travellers, consequently there are less expensive tickets around. As a result I would think your flight could be less full than normal although I think there will still be a fair few passengers.

Also, Orlando is a busy all year round destination so one would think your flight could still be rather full.

Yup,CI wanted to buy all Airbus, however, pressure from the US and the Taiwanese Government, made CI order Boeing also although not the 777 as expected. They have decided to replace some of their B744’s with newer B744’s.

    RE: Hapag Lloyd Express Expansion

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 27-12-02 AT 07:08 PM (GMT)]Repeating what I have said before, it is extraordinary what has happened in Germany in the past year. In 2001 there was no German based low cost airline except for Ryanair at Hahn, however, now at the end of 2002, there are around 4 German low cost airlines operating both domestic and international services, much to Lufthansa’s disgust. Lufthansa, seeing what was happening to the German market, have replied to the increasing popularity of low cost airlines and helped build up GermanWings.

In the next year we shall hopefully see continued growth in the German low cost market as a very traditional orientated aviation country starts to explore the low cost strategy.

I can definitely see hints of other aircraft in the AN-140…maybe the CASA/IPTN 235?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-12-02 AT 03:02 PM (GMT)]The accident looks like pilot error rather to do with maintance, which is a very common cause of accidents in this region of the world.
I don’t think this should dent the AN-140s reputation, however, it is extremely sad to see yet another crash of a CIS built aircraft, which could of been easily avoided.
    Andrewm,
The AN-140 is a beautiful turboprop airliner designed for the commuter market of the CIS. An excellent replacement to the AN-24.

RE: OK, so what did Santa bring?

    Quite a list I have!
    A nice new Nokia 3510.
Painting of a BA RJ100 flying over Jersey. (beautiful)
    Large Airbus calendar.
    Electric shaver.
    Loads of aircraft books.
    A few travel writing books.
    Clothes.

    All together an excellent Christmas!
