A quick question for you Chippie owners…
The US Type Cert. states that the UK Chipmunk is a DH.C1, whereas the Canadian version is a DHC-1. However I see that the DHC-1 is used universally…
Which is correct?
Here is the link to the US Type Certificate UK version

And the CN Version

Just a curiosity… thanks
BTW, Sometimes the links do not work the first time… not sure why exactly, it has been getting better as of late…

While I am thinking about it, I have noticed that some pictures of UK Chipmunks apparently use a flat windshield, and there is no curve at the top… I am not sure if it was a series that used this windshield, or if it was someones attempt to make a replacement, without the little bubble section at the top. If someone could shed some light on this it would be appreciated…

Okfoz, Did you get my PM?
No, I did not, I will look..
My intention was not to advertise, but to clarify the differences in the windshields (you say windscreens)
the windshield is not a free blown part, as the face of it is rather flat, and only at the top it has a “bubble” shape…

The link above shows the prices for colors etc… The parts are approved for only the 21, 22 & 22A only as apparently those are the only UK models approved here in the states… The other models it should fit (from reading the thread) should be the 10, and the 20, but I really do not even know that for sure, they have the same part number however… C1-FC281ND, Note that C1-FC805ND or C1-FC3A are assembly numbers, and only the windshield panel is available, the only difference between the two assemblies was apparently one was pre-drilled, the other was not.
I hope you find this helpful
PS, I should point out that the prices are US Dollars, and not CN Dollars as someone had indicated…
John
I’m hoping that someone out there can help me.
Several of us are looking to replace our Chipmunk front windscreens and availability is a bit of a problem. We’ve been told that this company:
http://www.glapinc.com/DeHavilland/DHC-1.htm
makes a windscreen that is suitable for Canadian Chipmunks, my/our question is are they compatible with the RAF T10? The Canadian Pt No is 03000ND whereas the T10 Pt No is C1-FC3A or C1-FC805A/ND, the company have been very helpful but are unable to verify if the 2 are interchangeable. None of our cockpits are airworthy if that helps.
Thanks in advance
John
This is John from Lakes Aero Products… I noticed this thread some time ago, and this is the first time I have been able to reply… Without making this into a sales pitch, I wanted to point out some differences between the windshields…
The windshields or windscreens are very similar but should not be considered interchangeable. The Most obvious difference visually is the bottom of the windshield where it meets the canopy. If you look at a CN chippie you will notice that the bottom of the windshield is more flat or horizontal looking, whereas the UK version comes more to a point. The CN chipmunk windshield is also narrower at the top and is more rounded, whereas the UK chipmunk windshield is more of an elliptical shape at the top and has almost a flat section, ultimately the UK version is probably about 2″ wider at the top of the windshield. The UK and is also a few inches longer at the bottom, even though it does not appear so in the pics below…

I hope this helps…
p.s. they are both now available.
