F-10 and JF-17 will form the backbone of PAF in the future.
34 to-be MLU’d F-16’s, 36 new ones and 26 used ones will provide ample breathing space. PAF has kept F-16’s air worthy even when sanctions were in place. (even the IRIAF flies Tomcats/Phantoms/Tigers today).
Thats why the inital order for ammunitions is huge. 500 AMRAAM’s and 500 JDAM’s, just in case, in the future something happens. (who knows)
Well, they’ll sure look pretty on the Al Zarrar for sure. Perhaps with carnations behind their ears! Is that why they are being purchased?
You just convinced me, you do send work to those DODO companies !
Again GoldenArrow, whatever helps you sleep better tonight.
The Air Chief has approved it saying it meets all defence needs. Lets wait for more details !
– Pak cannot touch its own 5 Billion $ F-16s to put any new EW system
– EW system obsolete
– Aircraft monitored extensively by US
– Spares cut off by US in time of war (which apparently the PAF knows and is stupid enough to go for it anyways)
Obsolete ? Neutered ?
Yeah I guess those 500 AMRAAM’s and 500 JDAM’s were approved to arm the Al-Zarrar.
F16s being given to Pakistan not ill-equipped: Kasuri
By Khalid Hasan
http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=2006 919story_19-9-2006_pg7_17
NEW YORK: Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri has dismissed as unfounded the view that the F16s Pakistan is buying from the United States are ill-equipped to deal effectively with Pakistan’s defence needs.
The minister told a press conference on Sunday evening that Pakistan is not buying “remote control toys”, nor paying $5 billion from its own resources to purchase aircraft that would not fulfil its defence requirements. What Pakistan is acquiring is “bang for the buck”. He did not wish to make any comment on what has been appearing on this issue in the US media. “These are weapons for Pakistan’s defence. We lack high performance aircraft and that’s what we are getting.” Obviously, there are restrictions countries place on transfer of technology, he added. He said he had spoken to the Pakistan Air Force chief who had told him that the F16s the country had ordered are perfectly suited to its defence needs.
Asked about the forthcoming Bush-Musharraf meeting in Washington, Kasuri said there is strong personal chemistry between the two leaders. The meeting is significant because it is the first time the two are meeting since the start of the strategic relationship that now exists between Washington and Islamabad. “Our relations are now multifaceted and not confined to the war on terror,” he stressed. He said a major effort is going to be underway for the economic development of the tribal areas.
Kasuri, commenting on the “blame game” some people are playing as to Osama bin Laden’s “presence” in Pakistan, said it is both unfair and without validity. Sometimes it is said that Osama and his top deputies are hiding in Chitral, which is not a Pushtu-speaking area; sometimes it is said that Mullah Omar was seen praying in a mosque in Quetta. The likelihood of such a possibility is remote since every major Al Qaeda figure has been caught in urban areas. It is easier to hide in caves in remote hilly areas, which are mostly across the border. He said it is “very unfair to do finger-pointing.”
What intelligence Pakistan has, he pointed out, it shares with the CIA as with 50 other countries, he added.
> as well as more powerful engine
this may appear strange why a already high T:W ratio provided by the 1200hp ukrainian engine needs further boost but the hidden truth seems to be the low torque curve of that engine family is not good, which hurts x-country manouvers compared to the less absolute HP (1000hp) but better low end torque russian engines on T-90 series.
Power-to-Weight ratio ?
Nick76, make your next post worthy of a reply. Otherwise, don’t expect one.
“I should know, I send design work to several of these firms.”
It all adds up now. DODO. 😀
Gotta go. Will chk later.
Glad to see you agree that bar some hot air, they wont do anything during an Indo-Pak conflict.
No one on this thread ever claimed that GCC countries would fight for Pakistan in a conflict.
In other words, you dont have any proof. Just hyperbole. Why am I not surprised?
Yes, the missile/nuke program sponsorship. Millions of funding for it. The reason why India spent an 8 month picnic on the border in 2002………. All hyperbole.
Talk about today! Tough talk apart, what are they doing to sponsor Pakistan?
We don’t need them to sponsor anything at the moment.
I know you folks like to talk loads about your ties with the GCC, put your money where your mouth is.
This was signed 4 months ago. So i assume more developments will emerge on this in good time. Just one of those ‘historic’ deals with GCC countries. 🙂

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia set to rewrite defence cooperation deal
* Islamabad will also transfer technology to Riyadh under new agreement
By Maryam Hussain
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are rewriting a 24-year-old defence deal in the backdrop of the fast changing scenario in the Gulf region and now both countries will hold joint war exercises and Islamabad will transfer war technology to Riyadh.
The new military deal is being signed on the request of Saudi Arabia. The Pakistan Army has been sending its armed personnel on deputation on the request of Saudi Arabia since 1982, now Saudi Arabia wants a new defence treaty to get maximum benefits from the Pakistan Army.
The draft agreement has been submitted to President General Pervez Musharraf for final approval. The federal cabinet meeting Wednesday with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz in the chair gave a go ahead to the Ministry of Defence to revise the old military cooperation pact signed in 1982 when General Ziaul Haq was ruling Pakistan and Shah Khalid was the monarch of Saudi Arabia.
Earlier, the Ministry of Defence sent a draft agreement to Saudi Arabia for approval, but Saudi Arabia raised some objections. After developing consensus on the agreement, the Defence Ministry got it approved from the cabinet.
According to the Defence Ministry, in terms of the rules of business of 1973, the prime minister had to approve the signing of the military cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia.
The agreement is meant to strengthen existing bilateral relations and enhance military and defence cooperation in various fields between the armed forces of both countries. A Defence Ministry summary said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defence Production and Joint Staff Headquarters had also cleared and supported the agreement. The Ministry of Law and Justice had also vetted the agreement.
The earlier agreement on the deputation of Pakistan’s armed forces and personnel and military training was signed between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia on December 14, 1982. The new agreement will cover areas related to cooperation in the field of training, deputation, transfer of technology, exchange of experience, purchase of weapons systems, equipments, spare parts and military medical services.
That Arjun is responsible for many other AFV/IFV programs, and that LCA has set up many firms with enough capital to plough back into aerospace.
They have literally created an industry. I think even India most trenchant local critics admit this.
At a much much greater cost for a poor country.
“In our case, we think we are a subcontinent and who cares? The drought kills millions, but there is a billion more, so who cares?” – Bharat Karnad.
In a previous thread, I had pointed out Senor Greendays incredible smoke and mirrors show- basically showing a lot of stuff, which doesnt address ANY of the issues being raised.
Lets see all that he has bolded. 😀
From the usual Pakistani media no less!
Any remarks about specific systems sold? Any remarks about Saudi and Pakistan coming to each others aid in times of conflict? No.
But what we have is the usual bureaucratic BS that every country signs when its delegation goes to the other country.
India recently signed a “defense agreement with Germany”. Obviously, tomorrow we shall see Bundeswehr Leopards in India to support an armoured thrust  & Germans Tornados supporting IAF MKIs.
And let me end with another rhetorical flourish, almost worthy of Greenday1.
The Chief Guest for India’s republic day in 2006
and of course minor things as well as this.
All this in 2006. Yippie yay yay.
Nick76, no country fights another country’s war as a favour. Saudi coming to help Pak in a conflict has nothing to do with the fact that these GCC countries have good relations with Pakistan. There is trust and co-operation within the field of defence.
Anyone can sign defence deals and what not. Unconventional help like ‘sponsorship of nuke program’ , half a decade of free oil (yes it has stopped now, but that it no way means the relationship has declined) and billions in aid of a fellow Muslim country are clear signs what Greenday1’s original argument was.
And yes I was shocked too when I read about the losses with the Mushak program, but i felt much gratified when i saw our friendly neighbourhood DODO at ‘work’. You and I we both know the Erieye sale will go through.

You don’t get it do you. Chief guests, business deals with Germany…what does that have to do with Pakistan and its relationship with GCC countries.
Millions worth of Pakistani equipment has been sold to GCC countries since IDEAS. There are trainers present and being acquired as we speak. Historic MILITARY deals have been signed and revived. OIC has seen a Pak General Secretary. According to you, they’ve even sponsored the Pakistani Nuke program…O bhai….do you get it ??
The DEFENCE relation between GCC and Pakistan is very good. 80 million worth of HIT equipment was recently sold to Iraq too.
Nick76, if it helps you sleep better tonight, the GCC and Pakistan will soon go to war against each other.
Enough for today. Later.
Why are PAF and PN is such a pathetic state that without a handout from US they would simply fall apart.
I’m not a navy guy, I admit, but can surely tell you why PAF was in a bad shape. Weapon Embargoes. 🙂
“I say it does, so it must”. Wonderful.
Talk of today ?
Its funny Nick76, you mention sponsorship of the nuke program and yet you say the GCC countries don’t give a damn with regards to Pak. 😀
Since IDEAS, millions worth of Pakistani equipment has been sold to GCC countries like Saudi, Iraq. They’re looking for Pak instructors in their AirForces as we speak. All the speculation (it didn’t turn out so) that the ERIEYE purchase would be financed by the Saudis/Emaraatis a few months ago was not baseless, historical trends had a lot to do with it.
If the case of Pak not having good defence relations with GCC helps you sleep better tonight, so be it. 😀
Try to pass of fake figures about economic growth while the economy drags on because of handouts from USA and arabs and when good journalists blow the cover make them disappear with the help of certain insidious agencies.
Woah!!…i thought the Arabs didn’t give a damn about Pakistan.
Any updates on how many thousand Arjuns are being ordered by the Indian army?
Ever heard of TANK-X ? 😀
LOL what muslim world? The ones who don’t give a damn about pakistan:)
Qantaz, in today’s world no one gives a damn about another. Today governments don’t give a damn about their own people. Hundreds of Farmer Suicides due to famine, AIDS, Polio holocaust, 40% of world’s malnourished children, rape of own women by the military etc.
As GreenDay1 pointed out, Pakistan does have good defence relationship with GCC countries.
