Paul the sketch and the painting are fantastic you have captured what Phantom QRA’s were all about. The three RAF Phantom schemes that stand out for me are 111 Sqn’s Black Mike, the Alcock and Brown commemorative scheme and the 74 Sqn. allover tiger scheme, although I’m led to believe that the aircraft never flew in this scheme.
Hope this gives some food for thought.

paint the fw up as Arnim Faber’s captured plane, it will be in RAF colours so there should a smaller chance of b**lsing it up, mind you someone would complain that the wrong shade of yellow had been used on the underside.

Wg/Cdr Richard “Dicky” Martin DFC and Bar, AFC, OBE was a wartime Hurricane and Spitfire pilot.Dicky fought in the Battle of France, BoB and later in North Africa, he was credited with a total of 5 confirmed victories. Post war he joined Glosters and did a lot of test flying on the Meteor and also the Javelin, he also used to display Gloster’s Gladiator G-AMRK which is still flying with Shuttleworth. Dicky was invited to join the select band of Suttleworth pilots where he carried on displaying the Gladiator and reaquainted himself with the Spitfire. Dicky’s performances in Spitfire AR501 were superb, he died on September the 1st at the age of 88.
Dicky Martin, fighter ace, test pilot and display pilot we salute your memory.

Not suggesting anything of the sort old boy, the Hurricane did it’s bit stoutly but we should take as fact that the Hurricane couldn’t have done it all on it’s own.

I’m not getting dragged into a debate here am I???

The fact is just that, the Spitfires deeds are fact, they happened in living memory and are not legend like Robin Hood or King Arthur, they are fact full stop and should not be open to question.

Dan Johnson did some fantastic colour panels of MH434 on thread t=20097 but non of them are of the Swire era, it would certainly fill a gap if he has some.

BBMF Lanc is going to be finished in two different Sqn codes on each side, representing Phantom of the Ruhr’s two operational units.

Early RAF name for the Bf.110, intelligence on the Bf 110 was still scant early in the BoB period as Fighter Command had only recently encountered them during the Dunkirk evacuation. Why the name Jaguar was used I havn’t the fogiest as the RAF didn’t have a name for other German aircraft.
