The guy with the Buchon is AM Cliff Spink who as an ex Coningsby station commander has flown fighters with the BBMF, C/T. Keith Brenchley is in the last picture, Keith is the BBMF’s engine trade manager.
I did my ATC glider training over the same Tern Hill fields that Paddy knew as a child, I met him once at Duxford where he signed my copy of his book “Paddy”, he seemed to be a very unasuming man but the naughty lad seemed not far away. If only we could fit a fraction of the things that Paddy got up to into our lives,we can then say that we have had a full life. It is very sad to read of his passing,
Wing Commander Patrick Peter Colum Barthropp DFC. AFC. R.I.P.
A standard P.R. XIX is the best proportioned Spitfire of them all, high back, long elegant nose, gracefull larger rudder and pure eliptical wings with no bulges on the upper surfaces and no cannons pertruding from the leading edges, If R.J. had lived long enough I think he would of approved.
Thanks Dave for pointing this sad news out to us, Kit North-Lewis was not an ace in the same vain as Bader,Tuck,Malan etc but was arguably the RAF’s finest ground attack wing leader. Blue skies Kit.
Kit North- Lewis’ story is being told in this months and next months Flypast as a two parter.
Thanks G-ORDY the more the merrier !!!
Does anyone have any good photos of MH434 during Adrian Swires ownership during the 1970’s ? 🙂
Great shots, the guy in the second shot looks like Coningsby’s Station Commander Grp/Capt Stuart Atha.
Flt/Lt A.F. Parkinson ex Tornado F3 display pilot, ex Red Arrows and now BBMF Fighter pilot.
Talking to Fluffy at Coningsby last September I was told that she was staying clipped winged and the broad chord rudder was staying, the reason is in this configuration the BBMF Mk.IX isn’t as cross wind sensitive than P7 or AB. They may have changed their mind since September, it would be interesting to here from Fluffy or one of his collegues.:)
RIP to one of 610 County of Chester’s finest, Bam we salute you.:(
Hey up Mark, I havn’t heard anything about FM213 coming over but I can keep praying. On landing a Lanc at EK I asked the question to Mike Chatterton after a NX611 taxi run and he said that wasn’t happy with the length of hard runway that is left, take off would be OK though. I havn’t been to EK since the opening of the grass runway so I don’t know its dimentions or alignment, sounds like a good Boys day out in the spring/summer what do you say?
Hey up Miggers I bet youv’e been wondering when I’ll put my two penorth in, the towel rail was used on wartime Lancs, I,ve seen them on Stirlings, Halibags and Whitleys, just have alook at some of those Lancs on Antonis links.
Oh and happy new year !!!:D

AB910 as Jan Zumbach’s Donald Duck. 🙂
S*d Southhampton R.J. was a Staffs lad!!! So what about an “Angel of Butt Lane”!!!!!
Butt Lane is the area he was born in and to everyone including the North Staffordshire natives Butt Lane is in the Borough of Newcastle -under- Lyme and has nothing to do with Stoke – on – Trent;) :p
Anyone notice the Buchon prop fitted to TE308?
