Rossistb, this Spitfire is AR213 a Westland built Mark Ia. It is the same Spitfire that was owned by the late Patrick Lyndsay and the late Victor Gauntlett. She is now owned by Sheringham Aviation and operated by Tony Bianchi’s Personal Plane Services at Wycombe Air Park (Booker). She has just emerged from a very indepth rebuild (started around 1999?)to an original Mark Ia spec, this involved undoing the many modifications that had been added to the airframe over it’s very active life.
The last I heard was that she was to wear 57 OTU. codes and colour scheme circa late 1941 but not in the red, white and blue nosed “Bounce Scheme.”
My own reaction to this news is BLOODY FANTASTIC !!!! well done Tony and all the P.P.S. team.:D 🙂

Fluffy, I heard from a reliable scource that as no original H2S blisters exist, BAE SYSTEMS as the design authority for the Lancaster will not give their blessing for a replica to be fitted. So if this is the case how can we have flame dampers made and fitted but no H2S blister?
On a personal note I say leave it alone, the clean fuselage of the Lancaster looks a lot better without a large pregnant looking bulge underneath :p

Unfortunatly Woodall Spa seems to be going through the same yob culture as a vast majority of British villages are expeariencing. I know Woodall very well having spent at least a week in the village for the last 14 years and I know that Woodall people are very proud of their assossiation with 617 Sqn and indeed the squadrons memorial. This act of vandalism needs nipping in the bud now and I hope that the community of Woodall Spa and Lincolnshire Constabulary act swiftly to stop this happening again.

    Horrified and Disgusted Spadegrip. 🙁

    Hi RJA,
That Lancaster in your photo I’m pretty sure is a Manchester.

Not impossible and would help to fill an important gap in the RAF’s history.
Whilst on the subject of between the wars fighters, whats happening with the Gloster Gamecock reconstruction that was reported on a few years back. I thought the plan was to contruct two aircraft, one to airworthy standards but to remain as a static exhibit, and the other to fly?

The BBMF pilot in the first photo is the Spits regular pilot Sqn/Ldr Paul Day OBE AFC RAF Rtrd. Known to many as Major, he is a former Officer Commanding BBMF and spent 23 years on the flight. He is probably the most experienced Spitfire pilot in the world with over 1,000 hours on type.

Sorry Nashio I’ve no photos but the other day I came across a Phantom tribute film on YouTube and guess what, it had coverage of 41Sqn. Phantoms at Coningsby in the mid 70’s. The thing that I found interesting was that it appears that the 41 Sqn. hanger is the one now used by the BBMF!!! I think that dates the footage from pre 1976.
Again sorry no photos but good luck and I hope you find this of interest.
