I don’t think its a wise thing for Japan to do by invading Hawaii, you must remember that when the Japanese Imperial Navy strike at Pearl Harbour, there were a few US aircraft carriers at sea. And the Navy shipyards were not targets of Japanese strikes, so this mean that US navy could repair what is left of their ships and can do it fast.

All the text I have read claims that the British won the fight even though they were battered to a pulp. What I find interesting is the fact that the First Sealord (Sir Winston Churchill) was not listened to and the British bullheadedly went in under the typical british assumption “We have rulled the seas for four hundered years, we’ll knock these sausage eaters for six and then serve tea”!

Churchill knew the awesome power that lay in waiting for him.

Yes, those kinds of assumptions were somewhat arrogant. We all know that the British fleet was built to contest a huge enemy fleet, but on that day ego could do little to secure a solid British victory. Admiral Sheer’s fleet was caught in a trap but they still broke out and give the Royal Navy a blood-nose. Even though Sheer’s fleet turned home first they had the figures on their side, sending 3 battlecruisers, 3 armoured cruisers, 2 light cruisers and seven destroyers of the Royal Navy down to the bottom of the sea.
