Canpark, they have longer range than our F-18’s, so what would be the problem?

It occurs to me that Australia never look to Russia when it comes to combat aircraft, those guys produce aircraft that is good in both terms of technology and range, but they are cheaper then American or western-European aircrafts.

So money is one thing I would like to point out as a problem.

I have been pushing for the RAAF to get a warplane beside the F-35.

when you say ‘pushing’ does that mean you have connections with the inside or something? or maybe a member of the Defence Force? :confused:

I think the F-35 is NOT a good choice because I heard if you take the stealth technology away from this plane, its only slightly better then the Hornets we already have, but why didn’t the RAAF consider the F-22?
As for Gripen, EF-2000 and Rafael, they are good choices but consider the logistical support it needs for a short-range aircraft flying in the vast airspace of Australia. It would be a major headache for the military planners.

As for Australia’s future, the only possible threat is terrorism, as demonstrated by the Bali bombings and the recent suicide bomber attack outside our Embassy in Jakarta. Invading or attacking a country like Australia is quite impossible because of the geographic position, but I would like to see who have the patience and money to take on Australia in a military confrontation.

Can we put this RACIST issue behind and get back on the topic of airpower?

Oh, since the RNZAF retire and put its fleet of A-4 Skyhawks up for sale, does anyone actually show interest in those planes?

I don’t think China would aquire Tu-22M, it is very unlikely and whoever think this is going to happen is an idiot.

In the early 80’s, the Fraser government were discussing with the British government, the possibility of buying the Carrier HMS Ark Royal (the last of the class and the only one not needed). There came a change of government and in June of 82 Melbourne was retired and July 83 she was towed to China to be broken up.

Broken up?!!! Damn! Damn! Damn!

Instead of doing that the Australian government could’ve have put it in a naval museum somewhere, I think its important that Australia preserve the ship for the sake of history, instead of sending to China to be broken up!

Once in a while Australia’s military planners do something really stupid, I agree that it is logical for Australia to use it, but money is somewhat an issue.
The RAN’s fleet was once unmatchable by other countries in the region, with the strike force consist of A-4 Skyhawks and other aircraft, the RAN is a very potent fleet for a navy that is small in international standard.

Australia used to operate the HMAS Melbourne as the fleet’s flagship, but I wondering what happen to it after it was put out of service.

Aircraft carriers in Australia have a very sad history, in 1964 HMAS Melbourne collided with a destroyer during an exercise off Jervis Bay, and in the 1980s Australia decided not to replace the ship and the RAN is without an aircraft carrier strike force.

But they have so many obsolete warships in desperate need of replacement, if China was to engage another maritme power such as the U.S, I think those ships would make very little difference in terms of technology.

Yes, it is a pity really. I would love a some authentic photos of a Myanmarese F-7s carrying a Litening pod pod, a load of LGB’s or Pyhon IIIs. 😀 wishful thinking 😀 I have been looking for photos of Myanmarese aircraft for a long time with hardly any luck.

I think the actual aircraft in the photo actually a Chinese air force plane, but someone did a very bad job of putting that Myanmar marking on it.
Just like you, I did some extensive search to find Myanmar air force jets, but with no success, I also I want to see their F-7s and MiG-29s as well.

And thank you for posting that picture.
