Anyone with images of Laotian Mi-6 Helo?
Does anyone have any idea how much these Iranian fighters cost and who are their potential customers?
From my personal point of view, the Indian LCA is a very capable light aircraft, but does it have a chance of making it into overseas market?
If the Philippines want new fighter aircraft for its air force, why can’t they look at the possbility of purchasing the LCA Tejas?
I mean, most of you agree that the LCA is cheap, then why not look at this capability, rather then going in circles with the F-5E upgrade.
I’m not sure whether those figures are correct or not but it seems that everything is in order, I thought the VNAF operate about 300 F-5s at the peak of its strength in the early-70s, but those numbers suggest something different, less then 100 F-5s.
After the Fall of Saigon in 1975, the Vietnamese People’s Air Force integrate U.S built planes into it’s own air force, and believe it or not communist pilots find American planes have much better handling then their Russian MiGs, which form the main fighting force. Rough estimates suggest that the VPAF have between 500-550 combat aircraft in it’s air force during the eighties, and most of these planes were operating outside Vietnam, in countries such as Cambodia where the Vietnamese were fighting the Khmer Rouge, and in Laos. By the early 1990’s all those planes were replaced by Su-22M/UB and more MiG-21bis, and as a result the VPAF have greatly reduced the size and have fewer planes.
well that american source was too generous to the american planes.
first of all, no-one knows for sure which is better out of the F5 and Mig21/J7 since they have never met in combat, but the vast majority put the two on par, and it will come down to pilot skill.
secondly, only a very small number of american fighters fell into vietnamese hands certainly nowhere near enough to pose any serious challenge to the PLAAF with its thousands of fighters.
the main reason for the PLAAF not getting involved was because of fear of the soviet supplies SAM and AAA network that gave the mighty USAF so much greef.
also, the PLAAF was at the time still mainly an air defence oriented force, so the value of their contrabution to the campaign was highly questionable.
weigh the risk against the rewards and you can see that they dont add up. hence the PLA’s decision to not use the airforce except in airdefence. since no vietnamese fighters tried to bomb chinese forces, there was no major air conflict.
In some way you do make a good point………….
Ask Iran, i’ll bet my life that they know something about them. And what happened to the Birtish Royal marines that they were holding, did they go home?
The last time I heard it, the marines were sent back to their duties in Iraq, so I don’t think they went home.
Probably too light for most countries.
Weight dosen’t seem to be a factor, but more to do with technological capabilities.
Oh yes, does anyone have images of Sudanese MiG-23s?
ACIG’s Sudan article have been updated with photos of the deliveries taken from Russian TV news. It shows the planes being loaded on a AN-124. Doesn’t look new to me.
Well, the Sudanese bought their 12 MiG-29s for $120 million so I don’t think its new, but maybe some surplus crap recieve refurbishment after been picked out of a junkyard. Besides, a poor country like the Sudan cannot afford brand-new planes.
According to one American source, the Chinese did not use combat aircraft against the Socialist Republic of Vietnam because they knew, that after the fall of Saigon in 1975, the VPAF have expanded its inventory of aircraft which made of modern U.S built planes, flown by combat-experienced pilots who have prevously fought in the Vietnam war against the United States.
U.S built F-5A/B/E/F are much better then Chinese J-6/7, and PLAAF pilots are not as well trained as the Vietnamese, so to put their pilots in the air and lose against the Vietnamese would be an embarrassment.
And yes it is true, when a Viet shake hand with Chinese he do think ‘fcukin Chink’…….
WACHENR0DER,
canpark is right… China’s and Vietnam’s ministers shake hands as though they are very good friends… but deep in their minds the Chinese is thinking “fcukin Viet”, and the Viet is thinking “fcukin Chink”
and recently China has formally complained and protested against Vietnam sending its own tourists to Nansha Islands.
Beside from complaining and protesting there is nothing the Chinese could do, in fact, I will rejoice the day when the Vietnamese beat the Chinese out of the Spratlys.
I didn’t know the guy was such a toad, with even an extra lower arm growing from his left elbow. In what is he a doctor actually?
By looking at this guy you wouldn’t know that he is a docter, but maybe a drunken loser in a flight uniform.
As for coastal patrol, I think an upgraded P-3 Orion is the best choice which also provide anti-submarine capabilities……………
