Probably the nearest a mere mortal can get to flying low-level over Central London!
More info, from the horse’s mouth:
Everyone is welcome to come along on Wednesday 17th
December, although it is primarily a Press Day, to The Shuttleworth
Collection because it is hoped, weather permitting, that we will fly the
Bristol Boxkite, also another Shuttleworth aeroplane, and quite a lot of
private owners are flying in. It’s a mini flying day in the middle of
winter! If you want to fly in, please telephone 01767 627288 beforehand.
Alternatively, the Air Traffic will be operating on Wednesday and their
number is 01767 627563. If you are planning to drive in, please be aware
that there will be a parking fee on Wednesday of £2 per car. It is
possible to pre book a Christmas lunch in the restaurant on 01767 627539.
Gates open at 10am; the actual time of flying will be weather dependent.
RAF participation is not confirmed at this stage.
Excuse me for butting in, but how do you tell if it’s nitrate? Would it be written on the edge, like markings on modern 35mm film? Or does it feel/look different to acetate?

I don’t understand why people won’t use a web browser that allows you to turn off pop-ups. No plug ins, no purchasing extra software; a browser with the function built in.
May I recommend Opera, Safari (for those Mac users), Mozilla…?
Opera has the choice of allowing pop-ups, disallowing them, or only allowing requested pop-up windows. I keep mine on the latter option and never see a single advert splat the middle of my screen.
You do not have to use Microsoft products, just because everyone else does!
Oh, and while I’m on my soapbox, ditch Outlook as well. What are all the viruses written for? Use something else and you’re less likely to pick up something nasty.
Here endeth the advert 😉

In no particular order:
Smallville
Star Trek (all of ’em!)
The High Life
Blackadder
Red Dwarf
Please sir, can I have some more?
Stargate, Andromeda, Simpsons, Futurama, Buffy…. they’re all good 🙂

X-Plane is a marvellous simulator and well worth a look. Plus, you can buy add-on scenery that includes the *whole planet* on 4 CDs! Not bad it is, either. And you can make your own etc.
Flying on Mars, anyone? Landing the Shuttle? Rocketing into the stratosphere in an anime machine? All can be done here 🙂

Nothing wrong with Jezza-his program on Brunel for the ‘Great Britons’ thing a while back was superb.Cain is Jezza’s father in law, and he writes a very good piece about all this in the current Radio Times; he points out that these days, people call muppets like Beckham a hero just for scoring a goal in stupid football; he says he’s proud to be related to a REAL hero.
Good on him, I say.
I didn’t realise he was related, although I saw most of the programme. (Did I blink and miss that information or did he only mention it in the paper?!) I thought the programme was well done though, particularly for the background about the medal itself, most of which I was unaware of. The deeds of the men were of course outstanding and my hat is taken off to them all.
I am so glad to hear of someone in the media trashing the football craziness! Wish more people would do the same… Football players are overrated and overpaid hairdresser models and nothing more, in my book. But that’s probably the subject of another rant.
I should bloody well hope not. As they said in the book/movie ‘Contact’; “If it’s just us in the Universe, seems like it’s an awful waste of space”
