Yep. After the Tornado follows the F-18.

    Another quiz question.

    What Jet used AESA first?

That would be the Mitsubishi F2

Amazing and very interesting to see that work on ShinShin is progressing. I thought it would remain on the drawing board, but it seems we might even see it take to the air some day soon….

Money most likely. I also remember reading somewhere that the bushmaster gun they were intending to fit onto the spartans was very troublesome.

Its a shame, because the spartan seems to me a whole lot more agile than the herc. I remember its demo on the paris airshow a few years back, that was almost fighter-like. Might be of value in a manpad infested area.

On the other hand, the big old herc can lug around a whole lot more ammo and sensors. It can probably hose ’em down all night long if it has to.

you think so? to me she merely looks a little underpowered, with only four shallow chord blades without any special aerodynamic features at their tips.

Hi guys, this is my first post, and I would like to enter with my take on PAK-FA dimensions. I took that photos with T-50 and Flanker together and perspective matched them in 3ds max using known relative positions of reference points on Flanker. Here are the results:

    1) Grid has 1 meter spacing. It is aligned with nose wheel, and we can see there that centroplan median line is approximately at 2m from the ground.

    2) This time, grid is aligned with main landing gear

    3) From this image we can infer length of T-50 at approximately 19 meters

Now, I have to mention, that Flanker schematics I had weren’t particularly good so I couldn’t get very good perspective match. Nevertheless measuring Flanker’s wingspan and length on picture 3 agreed with specifications within 4%. If anyone could provide me with better high-res Flanker schematics, I could do a better estimate.

What an excellent, excellent first post. If only everybody made such an effort to actually contribute instead of slagging one another off.

FWIW I think amiga500 makes sense about the Raptor’s nozzles. Neither side of the debate has provided any sources that make their claims stick however.

Amiga, could you try and find smaller versions or crop the parts of the pictures you post? they make reading the debate hard.

The moderator is right, disagreement is great, but does not preclude civility.

that’s because its armored to withstand 120mm SABOT hits. I still like the look of it though.

Wasn’t the F-19 the aircraft tha inspired the stealth strike jet in Tom Clancy’s red storm rising….the “Frisbee”?

Wouldnt it be awesome if Frisbee became the PAK-FA’s NATO reporting name?

Where is it? All I see is a Super Frelon. Or is this like the “revolutionary” Iranian F-5 with two tails?

    a frelon:
