nice one geoff. that thing had just the weirdest way of carrying heatseekers for self defence. the move it is making, is it tossing those 500 pounders ‘over the shoulder’ or is it just showin off for the camera?
Yes it is, in real life such huge warloads are never carried because they shorten the range. But in a pinch the mudhen can carpet bomb the neighbors like a boss 😉
Very beautiful picture, but OMFG what an ugly aircraft.. that belly! Lighting, you’re getting fat, get to the gym you slob!
Or are they perhaps lady lightnings carrying little tiffies?
Anyway if you like full-bodied aircraft:

😛
This one on the other hand looks downright anorexic:

pretty picture of a pretty aircraft
that dont look real to me but dang if it aint purty!
the inlets and strangely the nose wheel door. they do not want the chinese to know its not actually serrated 😛
Actually roll rate is quite the underrated agility stat. In any kind of scissors situation the faster rolling aircraft has a huge advantage. You can yoyo your behind out of a turn rate disadvantage, but you cant turn your way round someone who just rolled out of the plane of your turn so fast you cant follow him.
Second (IMO) to that are energy related things such as thrust/weight ratio and energy retention (drag).
There’s a reason the starfighter was considered a fine fighter and it wasnt its awesome sustained turn ability.
Afaik the Ka-50 / 52 yaws very very quick indeed because it it is a coaxial design. It is shorter and therefore the yawing motion has less inertia than a longer design with a tail rotor. On the other hand, you need to be more careful about “blade slap”; having the two rotor discs hit eachother due to harsh pitch changes or being hamfisted with the collective. Its also not very stable if the simulation is anything to go by. (the sim i base these comments on is this very detailed consumer product made in Russia)
The Kamovs do not have a system similar to the NOTAR. I wonder why that never took off. It seems such an elegant solution.
so what did it say?
Congress cancels over-time and over-budget jet. “Just like a sick, overweight puppy that can’t be healed, we had to put it down” states the chairman in a april 1st press release.
ermagurd that is sierra hotel!!
ok you guys are right, its a bad joke. its tasteless and offensive and i will edit the post right away. thanks for setting me straight. it seemed funny to me when i thought it up.
I sincerely hope it stays bloodless. That said, re the thread title:
“The Future of Ukrainian Air Force”
[picture of a crashing jet removed]
You so logical! it all makes perfect sense! how can it be otherwise?!
Very interesting. Means a gun is actually the best system to use against these tanks again. Or a very fast missile that can strike inside the reaction time of the system. Or perhaps just a dog with a couple pounds of semtex and a bit of training 😉
I find it odd that noone has mentioned roll rate yet. It’s pretty darn important in making yourself hard to hit when it comes to guns.
