This be the one I found. There is also a pic if a Lebanese Gazelle with a rectangular french 68mm rocket launcher, but that;s not what you were looking for.

The article is wrong. The project 22350 is offered for the program 17A of frigate. The project 15B is the continue of project 17A and offcource is Indian design, larger than the project 22350 frigate.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kolkata_class_destroyer

As for project 1167, is not a reality, as well as the image at the top of the article. Actually the image is a Chinese “art”, and the real title of this art was “project 1165 missile cruiser”.

    P15B > never heard of.

P15A > further development of P15 (Delhi class), with VLS

P17A > further development of the P17, the first of which is yet to be completed

P17 > Indian design, combining key elements of the Talwar class (mainly weapons, sensors) with a more modern domestic hull with twin helicopter accommodations comparable to that on P15 and P16/A

    Project 1167 > non-existent

Project 1165 > sketchy variation on the Kirov / Peter the Great class cruiser

    Ref: Retirement of TARAWA

    Folks,

I can not understand this. If anything the US needs every amphibious warship it has. And the TARAWA is still one of the most modern in the world for its mission. I have a feeling this is because 20,000 sailors were dragooned for basically infantry jobs in Afghanistan (mainly convoy escort and bomb disposable).

If anything offer it to one of our NATO allies who state they want to be able to deploy forces better in UN missions, etc. HELL give it to the Brits. It is a far better carrier than the Invincible class could ever dream of.

    Jack E. Hammond

    .

Keep it available for sale to India, as something to take SHARs to sea if (when?) ex-Hermes is finally retired and ex-Gorshkov is not yet available? Would also allow IN to practise various types of ops before is gets (a) new LHA/D.

Call made for China navy to battle Somali pirates

BEIJING: A Chinese general has called for the country’s navy to join the fight against Somali pirates, saying the mission would boost China’s international stature and give its sailors valuable experience in fighting open ocean combat operations far from their home ports.

China’s People’s Liberation Army Navy has little experience operating at long-range, its primary mission being coastal patrol. However, the service is believed to have major ambitions, possibly including the eventual deployment of an aircraft carrier.

Shiplift a bunch of smaller patrol vessel for coastal patrol, and accompany them by a couple of larger ships to provide control, muscle and logistic support?

    Tarawa to decommission Thursday

SAN DIEGO — After 32 years, Tarawa is going to bid farewell to its sailors.

The Navy plans to send Tarawa to the Fleet Ready Reserve Force.

The Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) maintains cargo ships in the Ready Reserve Force (RRF) to provide prompt sealift support in the event they are needed for the rapid deployment of military forces.

Hey guys, thanks for the encouragements! Actually gave me a few ideas… I’ve decided this whole adventure should be fun, and am striving to enjoy it as much as possible. Much like his old man, bub arrived fashionably late, just as we were planning more serious measures. By now, everything seems to be kicking in as it should so I’m quite happy. As for sleep … isn’t that something for wusses 😀

The Thales all-in-one mast is a foolish concept. A disaster for survivability.

If an Arleigh Burke or F-100 receives a missile hit in the forward main superstructure, you might loose the use all 4 arrays. If Horizon or Type-45 gets it in the forward mast,…
    Not much difference IMHO

Sleep? You can catch up with that in about 20 years, when he moves out. 🙂

    Glad to hear they’re well.

IF (we should be so lucky that he moves out)!
