It’d be D because you forgot the AV-8C 😀
AV-8C is an upgrade of the AV-8A with some of the systems improvements of the AV-8B (more powerful engine, more sophisticated electronic equipment, and aerodynamic improvements). Two test aircraft were reconfigured for evaluation and a limited AV-8C conversion program was undertaken (47 of 102 USMC AV-8AHarriers, until such time as the new Harrier IIs entered service). Is it considered a true version?
Just another – maybe silly question – … Any idea why the (PLUS) never got a new disignation like AV-8D ???
Deino
Why D?
You got:
AV-8A Harrier
AV-8B Harrier II
AV-8B (NA) Night Attack Harrier II
AV-8B+ Harrier II Plus

Don’t have time to comment now, but here’s the photo you asked for flex….
While the AIM-120 may not be fitted on the outboard pylons on Spanish and Italian birds, I think the outboard hardpoints are certainly capable of carrying it if the operator wants. I’ve seen Mk-82 bombs fitted on those hardpoints, and those are a lot heavier than the AIM-120.
This is an interesting pic as the wing tips appear to have been clipped. I seem to recall there having been at least experiments with modified wingtips for mounting Sidewinders.
on that 3/4 cutaway where would the radar go:confused: it can’t go on the top as whole wing moves would there be space for a retractable mount as theres all those drive shafts.
looks like a mantance nightmare
Arrangement as on AEW version of Sikorsky HH3 Sea King would do.
How hard would it be to develop a modern day variant based on that basic design? Would it be expensive to do so? How much time would it take? Or would it be smarter to start from scratch, or use V-22 as base?

More likely a mix of Aster-15/SylverVLU, some Mistral/Sandral, a few remote control light cannon (20-30mm). Possibly a few 76mm Oto’s to serve as CIWS (as on Horizon), considering the French navy doesn’t operate any CIWS like Phalanx or Goalkeeper.
I understand the French version of CVF will have “cats” and arrestor gear…….sooo……..what will her propulsion machinery be? More to the point……how will she get steam for her cats?
Who says she’ll get steam cats? Might be EMALS.
Seriously though, if anyone wants to defend themselves against Soviet massed anti-shipping strikes with subsonic 😮 , short-legged 😮 , WVR-only capable 😮 STOVL fighters, then be my guest.

Wasn’t the angled deck invented to sort out and seperate aircraft taking off and landing? So what’s the benefit for this reverse angled deck, aside from additional deck parking space?

Wanshan,
Could you supply more information on those maneuvers?
What ships take part on it (heard that Walrus arrived to Willemstead last week too)
When did started and when finished
Where to get more info on it?Many thanks…
It’s not an exercise but an ongoing op. Nessie was part of it earlier as well be had to leave it late August to partake in the PANAMAX 2007 exercise in september. However, prior to the exercise came to a conslusion on september 7, Nessie left to provide aid after hurrican Felix hit the middle American mainland (Nicaragua). She was joined by HrMr Pelikaan. By mid september she was back at Curacao, then Bonaire, to patrol with the ABC islands coast guard. Then in the last week on to the exercise VENHOL / Open Eyes, with the Venezuelan navy (VENezuela – HOLland). VENHOL involved both navies (frigates Mariscal Sucre and Van Nes), Open Eyes the coast guards of Venezuela (bark Oreama) and the Antilles (cutters Panter and Jaguar) . Then early oktober back to op Carib Venture.
