France has a track record of supplying the PLAN with TAVITAC combat system, Crotale SAM, 100mm gun, sonars and naval helicopters so far and the radome on top of the Chinese 052C DDG looks very like ARABEL.

    http://www.sinodefence.com/navy/surface/052c.asp

Does anybody know if the French sold ARABEL to the Chinese?

    Sunho

The bridge mounted radar is russian. That mast mounted radar is chinese and used in conjunction with the Type 730 CIWS (much the same as the russians have a dedicated search radar for each pair of Kashtan CIWS). Arabel is way bigger than the mast mounted radar. It is not Arabel.

What will (or will be) the difference between Goalkeeper as is and K-Ciws? I go the impression it will be the same mount fitted with different radar, differen below deck equipment.

i’m not so sure that 16 sets of the K-CIWS cheaper, modernized version of Goalkeeper have been sold to the ROKN. I think those are regular Goalkeeper systems.

    Thales NL news item 2004

    Thales NL news item 2003

They make no mention of K-CIWS anywhere on their site.

Thales put a picture and description of K-CIWS, a licensed derivative of Goalkeeper for the Republic of Korea Navy’s FFX future frigates on the wall of their booth at Naval & Defense 2005 exhibition in Busan yesterday.

    http://www.geocities.com/glescacat/index.html

The K-CIWS is a cheaper, modernized version of Goalkeeper of which 16 sets have been sold to the ROKN.

Thales also promotes SMART-S Mk2 for the FFX, displaying a rotating scale model in the center of their booth.

The next picture is a model of 3D radar developed by Nex1Future, formerly LG Innotek, for the ROKN’s new PKX fast attack craft. The radar looks quite similar to EADS TRS-3D/16 and electronically steers a pencil beam in the same manner as the latter. Its operating frequency is X-band, higher than TRS-3D/16’s C-band.

It only says lower production cost. This doesn’t necessarily mean cheaper (per unit) price e.g. if development costs are spread over limited number of productions units.

Does the phrase “posed picture” ring a bell. If anyone is to blame, it is Bush’s escorts, they should have cought the lapse.

Someone at Defense Industry Daily has a dry sense of humor. Check out the Ohio picture at the link to the FCS story:

Well, the new destroyers to me don look like went along the Udaloy-II designs ….. some pic of the improved Udaloy-II from the IMDS 2005, which has been posted earlier too …

Down below is the new ‘frigate’ that is said to be under construction/to begin construction and will lilely come out after 3 years. Putting some drawing for the said ‘frigate’ Project 22350, the original one was posted by Igorr at BR.

Other pic was the speculated capablity of the project-22350 ‘frigate’ by me and posted in some other forum a few months back. Some believe that its actually a frigate and is the next batch of Talwar class (throughly modernised) for Indian Navy to come from Russia. (the contract had 3 as option) And my speculation abt the same has been that, its actually a sucessor to the Udaloy-II class of destroyer with a very good set of offensive & defensive weapons. Its based on this ‘destroyer profile’ and the apparent structures at the stern (i cud as well be wrong) that i made the below stren config and the likely weapons ‘load’ that i showcased in the drawing.

My speculation of Project-22350s size and armaments rests on the size comparison of the main gun turret, the stern, 16-cell VLS on the modersinsed Udaloy-II, among others. While some say its a follow-on design of the Talwar class ship, considering the main gun is actually a modernised A-190E.

Another config (speculative) that u guys can see is the ‘enlarged’ version of the basic Project-22350, which was based on enhancing the combat potential of the ‘basic’ design by plugging in a ‘module’ thus almost doubling the weapons load at aft …

    .

I’ve seen these drawings, also as compared to existing ships. Big ship, more a destroyer than a frigate (8k-9k displacement). Considering looks of project 20380, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is what’s building, with Udaloy III as back up/fall-back/export option. Problem is we’ve no picture of the ships building. So it could be either.

this might sound a little silly but does anyone know about the HALO system used by the Specfors? (High Altitude Low Opening), it’s a bomb like cannister that has a guidence head on it, much like the ones used on the LGB’s, and is used to drop supplies in behind the lines whilest the dorp plane remains out of reach of most SAMS.

    Isn’t HALO a parachuting technique ?

Not necessarily, see proposals to add 2×2 SA-19 to Ak630 mount. And an 8 cell VL Barak unit integrated with a Goalkeeper or a Phalanx doesn’t require all that much space.

how low can they get?if you were cash strpped and needed weapon systems urgently you would try bartering aswell!and why not if it works and countries are willing to accept the bartered goods?!i say fare play to them and i hope they get the best going!

They should be bartering services rather than goods. What’s Thailand’s big industry again? :dev2:

Only some 300 km missile for this huge 9000 ton strtegic nuclear submarine? I wish/pray, we may see something atleast 1500 km range Indian or Russian cruise missile. 😮 😀 😉

300km would do just fine for now.
