Could it be a picture of one of the hangar doors on the HDMS Esbern Snare? Abit of a long shot.

No, the corners of the hangar door on Esbern Snare are not rounded like that. I’m thinking JMSDF auxiliary or test ship.

yes but this are official losses and in war you know there is a lot of cover up
Korea war casualties that have been underreported with many other planes beign shot down by soviet aces

Oh ok, so there is always cover up. Do you really think it would matter if just 2 aircraft or 10 were lost, considering the extent of the air campaign? Hardly, I would think. Not that I am saying 10 were lost.

I was working on that image with the helicopter hangar door but suddenly these images could no longer be displayed somehow, so I have no pic for reference.

The Javelin Executive Jet will be equipped with two Williams FJ33-4-17M turbofan engines (modified FJ33-4-15M), which will produce 3,400 pounds of total thrust, allowing for a maximum cruise speed of 0.92 Mach, climb rates of 10,000 feet per minute and a maximum ceiling of 45,000 feet. The Javelin’s cockpit and avionics will be compatible with the display systems in current fighter jets, including the F-16, Eurofighter and more.

what makes you think it can be compared to the T-38 Talon? Just because it looks similar doesn’t mean it’s comparable. Tell me then, the power it has, its structure, etc? I’ll tell you that the T-38 and almost every other aircraft of it’s type were derived from real combat aircraft.

I already provided a link to the manufacturers website, which has specs on it.

Don’t know if you noticed, but these days manufacturers often design a trainer and then develop a light attack aircraft on the basis of it. E.g. the MAKO advanced trainer and light combat aircraft being developed by EADS Military Aircraft, Korea’s T-50 Golden Eagle jet trainer and light attack aircraft, L159 advanced light combat aircraft (ALCA) by Aero Vodochody based on the proven L39 Albatros and L59 family of basic and advanced jet trainers, The Hawk family of aircraft by BAE SYSTEMS, the Yak-130/M-346.

Anyway, the issue is not whether Javelin is the same as T38. Rather, the question is what would do the job, looking at the air threat that Mexico faces. Realistically, a well armed combat version of an advanced or combat jet trainer would do. There’s not going to be a fight with the US, and it is extremely unlikely that Cuban or Honduran jets move anywhere near Mexican airspace. So, an LCA with good missiles and a gun would do fine.

Would Brazilian/Italian AMX be a viable option for Mexico?

i dont think it has the power to do anything more than jet training.

It’s comparable with the Northrop T-38 Talon in many respects. I suppose a light combat version (once developed πŸ™‚ could have a performance approaching that of the F5 Tiger II.

Considering Mexico’s air force main core:
    Northrop F-5E/F Fighter/Attack USA (8/2)
    Lockheed T-33A Trainer/COIN USA (17)
    Pilatus PC-7 Trainer/COIN Switzerland (70)

Direct neighbours are USA, Guatamala, Belize, Cuba. A fight with US is unlikely and suicidal if it should happen. Belize is defended by RAF Harriers and Belize Defence Force Air Wing BN-2B Defenders (2) and helicopters. Guatamala’s main combat strength is Cessna A-37B Dragonfly Fighter/Attack USA (4) and Pilatus PC-7 Turbo Porter COIN Switzerland (6). Leaves Cuba with Mig 21 (approx 80), Mig 23 (approx 50) and Mig 29 (2).

    Honduras
    Northrop F-5E/F Fighter USA (6/2)
    Dassault Super Mystere B.2 Fighter France/IDF (5)
    Cessna A-37B Dragonfly Fighter/Attack USA (8)

    El Salvador
    Cessna A-37B Dragonfly 9 Fighter/Attack USA (9)
    Dassault MD-450 Ouragan (stored) 3 Fighter/Attack France (3)
    Fouga CM-170 Magister Fighter/Attack France (1)

    Nicaragua
Virtually no combat element (armed helicopters)

You could get some in jet trainer version (12-24) as well as in light combat version (12), kinda like the Hawk and Hawk 200 combo. Lesser performance then F16 but if fitted with a small radar, a pair of Pythons and maybe a pair of Derby’s, Javelins in greater numbers than F16 could be usefull. Main task is anti-narcotics anyway.

I think they should go for something like the T-50.

They don’t need just a huge number of them, and the supersonic capability is nice to have if the need were to ever arise.

With their advanced avionics, they would work well in conjunction with the E-2’s.

Of course there’s another alternative no one has mentioned…..SLEP the F-5’s and upgrade them. IAI and other companies have done wonders breathing new life into the Tiger II airframe. An upgraded F-5 would certainly be a more capable jet than the F-7, and it would have the advantage of having already been in service for a while meaning little money would have to be spent on additional training for maintainers or for pilots.

The F-5’s may be old, but giving them an airframe life extension and a nice little upgrade would do the Mexicans just fine. There are also some T-33 upgrades available out there that they could look into.

Perhaps something like the Javalin advanced jet trainer / light attack jet would do nicely.

Fairly competitive in terms of both price and quality, I would say. The boycot during the apartheid years has forced SA to acquire and develop its own technologies and weapon systems, with much help from for example Israel. It now produces ATGWs (ZT3, Mokopa) that are comparable to TOW and Hellfire, good quality AAMs (U-Darter, R-Darter), SAMs (SAHV3 in IR and RF versions, and Umkhonto VL derivative), and the MUPSOW for precision strike.
