    Wanshan,

Your welcome to your Ferrari mate!. I’ll stick with the Aston Martin! πŸ˜€

There’s just no accounting for taste, is there? DB9 or Testarossa or – even – Corvette, I’ld take that over Opel Vectra, Ford Mondeo anyday.

Clearly, when you have a family, an estate car is a better choice than a ferrari as it is much more versatile. Nonetheless, I’ld rather drive the ferrari. I think the same pretty much applies with Corvette and FAC πŸ˜€

And I hear that the Saar 5 has some inherent roll problems due to high center of gravity (that is why Gabriels were never fitted, I think).

Not to mention that Barak is carried only in the forward area and not in the rear area above the hangar infront of the rear mast (there’s often a SATCOm mounted in that position).

Which one of those four boats are you guys talking about? πŸ˜€

    Boat?!?!?!

Gents, the term boat is used to indicate something small (< 250 tn) or submersible (submarines). It is not used to indicate a 2000 frigate. That would be called a ship.

BTW what is that white dome above the hangar between the Kashtan-1s?

Surveillance radar used specifically in conjunction with Kashtans (may be Positive-ME)

That’s the drawing I was referring to. I’ld much sooner expect the Russians to be building this than an Alligator class ship or a derivative thereoff.

I was not referring to the pump itself (blue) but rather the square base on which is rests (black). That seems similar to what sits in front of the bridge of 115. On the Type 054s , the round base for the HQ7 launcher sits just in front of that square and is relatively small.

    You had linked from CDF:
They don’t allow linking of their photos to other sites. They can ban you for this….

    Well, crud!

What I wanted to show was an image of a type 054 in the yard at an early stage of fitting out, specifically the area of the HQ7 launcher. There’s a nice square thingy mounted there on which sits a air pump that is used during fitting out. Seems similar to 115 forward area.

Porject 11711? More likely Project 1171.1 by common russian practise, suggesting a derivative of Project 1171. However, project 1171 is the (very old) Tapir (NATO: Alligator) class LST. Seems to me that if the Russians are building new amphibious ship that they would build something a little more up to date. Indeed I have seen lin drawing of at least one new design amphibious ships, which was nothing like the Alligator class. SO, I have my doubts about this even if coming from Janes

Poor kid, I can see that your post is purely intended to flame try pakdef.info

Perhaps you would bring some more evidence to proove your above statement, as the only evidence of the actual health of the ship is officially deemed as “good”

Any of you guys serious? There is NO WAY the US will export ANY old super carrier to any other navy. The whole discussion is pointless.

The Saar 4, 4.5 and 5 are capable to carry 1 helicopter on their deck.
During the Lebanon war, several raids were conducted with Israeli Defender helicopters that took off from the navy ships.

    4,5 and 5 yes, 4 no

DUdes, these three models all depict Severnoye designed ship that are as yet unbuild. Although I like the models/designs, they do not include the Talwar-class built for India and do not include the Scorpion class FAC. Just so there is no confusion about that.

It looks to me that some kind of gun, Type 730s perhaps, will be placed amidships near the funnel in either side. Then another 730 on top of the hanger.

I got problems looking at the base structure where the HQ-7 is supposed to be on the front, and the structure on top of the hanger. Since they are not circular, I have to rule out a rotary cold launch system. However the base structure also differs from the base structure in the 167. The structure on the front is fenced just like the base structure on top of the hanger.

Agreed on the gun-base amidship. As for the front and rear positions and their shape: remember this?
