Um, I was referring to the J-15.:o
It is clearly visible under the tailcone in the BW wireframe above (which has filename j15g.jpg)
As for the photographs, most are too blurry to tell.
This pic, however, I think you can distinguish the hook under the tailcone.
I think the fact that the F-35B’s wings don’t fold for stowage may have something to do with it.
A little, but not a whole lot (particularly not if embarking a mix SHAR + GR9).
Wing Span:
– F-35A/B 10,67 m.
– F-35C 13,12 m (9,90 m folded).
– Harrier II (AV-8B Plus/ GR9) 9.25m
– Harrier FA2 7.8m
– Rafale 10.8m
– F-18A/B/C/D 12.3 m (unfolded)
– F-18E/F 13.62 m (unfolded)
Length:
– F-35A/B/C and Harrier II about 15.5m
– Harier FA2 14.16m (13.06 with nosecone folded)
– Rafale 15.27m
– F-18A/B/C/D 17.1 m
– F-18E/F 18.31 m
While I won’t claim to have the slightest degree of technical expertise with aircraft, none of those pics show an arrestor hook.
It should be snug underneath the SU33s rear radar cone (which is smaller and shaped differently compared to a regular SU-27)
Wasn’t PAAMS already operational?
Emphasis: “these firings were intended to validate modifications that were made to the Aster 30 missile after launch failures in 2009.”
Russia mulls purchase of Ukrainian missile cruiser
Russia considers purchasing an unfinished missile cruiser from Ukraine, Russian Navy Commander Admiral Vladimir Vysotsky said on Saturday.
Construction of the Slava class Admiral Lobov cruiser was launched in 1984 at the Nikolayev shipyard in Ukraine but stalled in the late 1980s due to a sharp reduction in military expenditure.
The cruiser was renamed the Ukraina in 1992.
Full Story
THey are leaving it wide open (but surely there will be some form of pay off for the use of facilties on Ukrainian soil.)
“We agreed with the Ukrainian side that we will consider all variants of the ship’s fate and present our proposals by the next meting in the fourth of the year,” Vysotsky said
A senior Russian Navy official told RIA Novosti the cruiser was only 50% complete and that the repairs and upgrade would cost up to 35 billion rubles.
He said that while this sum was enough to buy four Kilo class non-atomic submarines or four Steregushchy class corvettes for the Russian Navy, Moscow may still press ahead with the purchase as part of the wider campaign to reset relation with Kiev.
Is it me or does anyone else think there is a trend at the moment for European navies to procure Amphibious Assault/Force Projection ships. UK, France, Spain, Italy, Russia and even smaller navies such as Denmark have procured or are procuring such vessels.
If they don’t then they are totally dependent on USA or STUFT for sea lift, which means their role in international ops e.g. of a humanitarian nature will be impossible. It is part of the current justifications for having a navy.
The BPE is US style, it is basically a modified Sea Control Ship.
10,000 tons worth of ‘modification’?! I think you’re selling the BPE design seriously short.
All US style carrier types (amphibs, sea control ships and CV’s) only have RAS stations on the starboard side.
Yes, I understand, looking at the LHD. Wasn’t expecting RAS gear on two sides. But the point is, the BPE Juan Carlos is not a US-style ship, so they (the Spaniards) have adopted that feature in their own desing. Whereas e.g. Italians, French, Japanese, South Koreans and Brits have not.
Bundesmarine was before 1990 – now ist called Deutsche Marine đ
But i think, the structure of 9000 will be not not reality…it´s now just a example
Ja, ab 1990 ist die aktuelle Bezeichnis ‘Deutsche Marine’. However, it is still Bundesrepublic Deutschland and Bundeswehr isn’t is? So, technically, to refer to Bundesmarine is not incorrect.
Invincible class (and RFA Argus) can issue fuel through a crane rig, but it is very rarely done.
Principe d’Asturias has 2 RAS stations on starboard, in front and to the rear of the island structure. Chakri Nauebet has and Juan Carlos I (BPE) have 1 RAS station on starboard, respectively to the front and to the rear of their island structures.
If the purpose structure of 9000 (18000 now) official posts became a reality, the German navy becomes for the first time smaller than of the Netherlands Navy(10000 official posts).
:diablo:
Though I have no ill will towards the Bundesmarine, the Koninklijke Marine will be pleased. After the thrashing it received, at least the Dutch navy will now have this going for it.
No. I don’t thing so! …. the sweeter things cud be his personal stuff. Considering this case and the pace at which contracts with US is being concluded neglecting more priority products, one have to wonder how yankees are doing it. Probably they make the Indians sign it in the bed itself?? :p
If media may have any doubt, they better hire some impotent accountants from around the Globe to figure out the cost of the project.
Has this been posted?
Have you followed the stories around the acquisition of French subs by Pakistan lately? Apparently losts of important people got kickbacks. Do you see any of them resigning?
Interesting in the LHD pics is their role in refuelling their own escorts. Much like one finds in Spanish navy flattops (both) and Thai flattop. Have not seen this facility in e.g. Invincible, Garibaldi, Cavour, Mistral, Hyuga, Dokdo etc.
Wouldn’t mind owning me a bird like the L-29 … đ
The SINKEX experiments with USS America provided a lot of valuable damage tolerance data from several different simulated warheads. It was finally scuttled as a hazard to navigation and sits on the bottom of the Atlantic west of Bermuda, upright and in one piece.
Before USS America, the last time a carrier was used in this type of testing was in 1946 at the Bikini atoll (Operation Crossroads), to test effects of air- and subsurface burst of atomic weapons.
The only thing odd about this is the Israeli ship, the rest is just the Truman group which is on a routine deployment.
I’m sure they (the Israeli’s) would prefer this to going around the Cape (which they have no problem doing, if necessary, as they’ve demonstrated in the past). And going together with a large group of US ships provides some extra security/protection, I would think, just in case. Also, it may just be that traffic control set it up this way, to have all navy ships that presented themselves move as a single group.
