Lol…Well, I seriously hope nobody can “better” that! 🙂
You claiming the record, AA? How quick do you run up those stairs? 🙂 Took my posts 13 minutes to load the other day.
Yes I found too that this forum loads in seconds which made me wonder if the Historic forum is reaching capacity. I’m no computer expert though and don’t know if that’s how these things work.
Typically, the above post took mere seconds to load! Yet every post I’ve put on Historic recently has taken several minutes. Is there a “saturation point” where a forum can get overfull?
Hi guys,
I’ve posted a couple of times today and found it has taken over 10 minutes to display the post. After my first post I tried to add some additional info by way of an Edit but the post simply re-loaded without the additional info! General browsing/ page loading time seems to have really improved though (for me, anyway).
It seems the Fox (having been re-designated mark IV) was demonstrated to the Kwangsi Air Force in 1934 – https://www.flightglobal.com/pdfarchive/view/1934/1934%20-%200763.html?search=kwangsi
The pilots of the Kwangsi AF defected to China in 1936 and it appears that the Fox crashed at this time.
The A Fleeting Peace website http://www.afleetingpeace.org/index.php lists this aircraft as sold to the Chinese Air Force in 1933. Flight Archive has this from 1934 showing the Fox demonstration for the Kwangsi Air Force – https://www.flightglobal.com/pdfarchive/view/1934/1934%20-%200763.html?search=kwangsi
Lovely photos which really show the size of the Fox.
Very nice! Great footage not just of the Blue Max aircraft but of IAC Provost and Vampire amongst others.
Glad you posted that link Errol as I’d missed your earlier posts. Superb photos and great to see such a thriving scene in NZ. Thanks for posting 🙂
If my memory serves me correctly, it was a Gyron. Probably the Science Museum example as Strathallan had some items loaned to them mid-80s in an attempt to broaden the appeal of the museum. The Flying Bedstead was there for a while.
There was an engine from a Sperrin at Strathallan late 70s or early 80s. First I’d ever heard of the type.
Well I’m totally confused as to how the photo appeared again! Can’t see how to delete it either!

I wish I could help, but can’t without a bit of research. I’ll certainly ask around
Thanks, Laurence 🙂

p.s. when did Birsfelden close?
Birsfelden’s last passenger flight was in 1950 and I’ve also seen 1953 given as its final closure date.

If my (weak) translating is correct some of the Birsfelden hangars were moved on its closure to Mulhouse. Perhaps Laurence can confirm? Whilst googling I also found this pic of an unspatted HB-EPI taken in 1960 (from http://www.bsl-mlh-planes.net/picture/picture_id/1146)

Think it could be an M.11 Whitney Straight, Duggy. There were at least a couple registered pre-war HB-EPI and URO. Nice photo 🙂
