Looks like the Spitty having a close call on a birdstrike too 😀
Lol yes – the gulls – like there aren’t enough live ones in Glasgow as it is! Surprised that the Spitfire has not been moved to the newer Riverside Transport Museum which, though I haven’t yet visited it myself, I understand has little in the way of aviation exhibits. At least as far as complete aircraft are concerned.

Who needs wires? Kelvingrove Art Gallery in Glasgow have come up with a novel way of reaching their hanging aircraft – strategically position a giraffe underneath and you can just shimmy up its neck lol 🙂

When was she painted as I have a postcard of her with RR299 both in camo?
I believe it was done at Leavesden sometime between May and September 1986.
the same time as the Canberra T19 ‘took-off’ as per the avatar!
Same thing happened to Comet XK655 at Strathallan in the Winter of 1978. Couldn’t get across to see it myself because of said snow so had to make do with the grainy old newspaper pic –

Enjoyed the history and pics of VH-SNB which has been resident up here in Scotland for the past 40 years. Lots of other great photos too. Thanks for posting 🙂
Just want to add my thanks and best wishes too for 2015. Merry Christmas 🙂
Black Spout and dam at Pitlochry
Bit of rain up here in Scotland in recent weeks ( just for a change lol). Photos taken in Pitlochry where the dam was in full flow. Walking across it we could really feel the force of the water being churned through yet the loch on the other side was calm as a millpond.

We then walked/climbed up to the wonderfully named Black Spout waterfall. A bit tricky to find at first but well worth the walk.

Thanks for the update and well done for continuing with the job 🙂
Happy to hear that Len Trevallion isn’t the last! Should have known not to quote a newspaper directly lol. I guess Oldest Surviving WW2 Blenheim pilot would be more accurate then. Unless…

it would be nice to see her finished in a civil scheme say overall silver with deep red markings.

The upcoming auction as reported by The Scotsman –
It didn’t go directly to East Fortune, but was restored to flying condition.
Having last flown in 1976 and with just over 1300 airframe hours, the M.18 was sold for a reported £3,500 to the Scottish Aircraft Collection Trust and flew again in May 1983. It’s nice to see that the plaque showing SACT’s ownership is still in place. Strathallan used to have similar engraved metal plaques on many of its aircraft – wonder what happened to them? They would have made quite an exhibit if all kept together as a reminder of one of the earlier private collections.

I have never seen a stated collection policy.
While agreeing with the comments regarding the representation of Scottish aviation history ( yes I would really like to see a Heron and DC-3 too and there are probably a few aircraft which could sport colour-schemes with a Scottish link) I am not actually sure that the museum needs to have any collection policy other than that the items are related to flight. It is simply a Museum of Flight. I believe the National bit only relates to how it is funded.
That Napier Nomad is an absolute beauty, thanks for posting the photos.

The Wyvern would have been quite a sight (and sound!) with one of those in front. I was impressed by the sheer bulk of it!
