The trip must be getting closer as the rumours are starting to get crazier…no we will not be FLYING with Just Jane, YES we are returning to Canada, Vegas apparently has odds on the trip, etc.

Here are some official Thwaites Lancaster Bomber Tour updates:

A documentary company from Canada has been contracted to film the entire trip. They have an extensive background in filming around the world and two of their crew will be on board the Lancaster for both crossings. The documentary company have also subcontracted a division of the BBC to work with them. A release is scheduled for 2015 on TV, Netflix, DVD, etc.

Our Lancaster will be painted in the markings of KB726, VR-A for the UK Tour.

We will be spending a decent amount of time at Coningsby and Humberside (both in the north). We will announce details for visiting us there closer to our arrival. We are working with the BBMF, Humberside Airport officials and local officials to deal with the large crowds expected.

We are pleased to confirm the following additions to our schedule:

August 28 – Visit to Durham Tees Valley Airport, formerly known as RAF Middleton St. George, where several RAF and RCAF squadrons were based during World War II, including Andrew Mynarski of 419 RCAF Squadron. It is a fitting tribute that the “Mynarski Memorial Lancaster” makes this important stop on the tour. Further details TBA.

September 6 – Scottish Airshow at Prestwick (both Lancasters).

September 6 & 7 – Air Waves Portrush, Northern Ireland (both Lancasters).

September 11 – Jersey International Air Display (both Lancasters).

September 22 – Depart back to Canada.

Additionally, the following dates are planned but not yet confirmed:

September 12 – Guernsey Air Display (both Lancasters).

    September 13 & 14 – Goodwood Revival (both Lancasters).

September 13 & 14 – Duxford Air Show (both Lancasters)

There will be further additions as they become confirmed.

For a full schedule, see http://www.warplane.com/lancaster-2014-uk-tour.aspx.

To be expected…it’s the “biggest” warbird news story out there at the present time.

We shouldn’t be surprised to see both Lancasters together on the cover of both Aeroplane and Flypast at the same time in the near future.

Thwaites’ Lancaster Bomber is set to play its own part in military history this summer, as it is unveiled as the headline sponsor of a landmark trip which will see Canada’s only airworthy Lancaster Bomber fly to the UK as part of a month-long commemorative tour.

The Avro Lancaster Bomber, which is owned by the Canadian Heritage Warplane Museum, will depart from its base in Ontario on 4th August, bound for RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire. The 3,700 mile journey, which is set to be completed over four days, will include en-route stops at Goose Bay, Canada, Narsarsuaq, Greenland, and Keflavik, Iceland.

The aircraft – an enduring symbol of World War II – will feature at a host of high-profile air shows across the UK including Eastbourne, Bournemouth and Shoreham, where it will be united with the RAF’s only remaining airworthy Lancaster Bomber.

The pair will return to the skies under the watchful glare of the world’s media, in an aviation partnership which is unlikely to be seen again.

Thwaites’ momentous announcement comes on the 71st anniversary of the Dambusters Raid, otherwise known as Operation Chastise, in which a fleet of RAF Lancaster Bombers struck dams in Germany’s Ruhr Valley.

The latest sponsorship activity complements Thwaites’ hugely successful Give A Dam campaign, in which 5p from every pint of Lancaster Bomber sold has been donated to Leonard Cheshire Disability – a charity founded by former Bomber Command veteran, Group Captain Leonard Cheshire.

Steve Magnall, managing director of Thwaites, brewers of Lancaster Bomber, said: “We are extremely honoured to sponsor Canada’s Avro Lancaster Bomber as it makes its historic journey to the UK this summer.

“We couldn’t pass up this incredible opportunity to help unite the world’s last two remaining airworthy Bombers and the sight of these two majestic aircraft will leave a lasting impression on those who are lucky enough to witness them flying together, right here in the UK, for the very last time.

“We’re thrilled that Lancaster Bomber will be able to build on the success of its 2013 campaign – in which we donated over £30,000 to Leonard Cheshire Disability. This sponsorship brings our campaign full circle in a way we couldn’t have possibly imagined and we expect demand for the ale to be at an all-time high across both on and off trade.

“Our ale drinkers are passionate about respectfully remembering those men and women who fought for our freedom and we can’t think of a better way to commemorate the sacrifice and dedication of our nations’ air forces. We hope many will join us in raising a glass to those Bomber Command veterans who gave their lives in the name of liberty.”

Pamela Rickards of Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Thwaites’ Lancaster Bomber as our headline sponsor. There is an obvious synergy between our historic aircraft and this wonderful British ale and both parties are incredibly humbled to be honouring our nations’ fallen heroes, with this summer’s historic schedule of activity.”

Lancaster Bomber ale, which has twice been voted Best English Bitter at the European Beer Star Awards, is available to buy in selected stores across the UK including Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Morrisons, Waitrose, Booths and online retailer Ocado.

Thanks again for your patience in awaiting our schedule announcement. It is just taking much longer than we anticipated. We are humbled by the warm response and look forward to meeting so many of you in England this August.

Our small team meet weekly to address the requests and opportunities that have arisen since the announcement of the trip. We are working through decisions regarding scheduling, maintenance, marketing, retail, flight ops, logistics, etc. We are also keeping an eye on all the suggestions and requests on social media and forums.

Finally, we were surprised to see on this forum that we are scheduled for a flypast at the Bourn Memorial. Unfortunately, we have no knowledge of this!

We are also pleased to announce that Mikey McBryan of Buffalo Airways/Ice Pilots fame will be making a special guest appearance at the 2012 Hamilton Airshow.

Lovable, hilarious and obsessed with AC/DC, Mikey McBryan is “Buffalo” Joe’s youngest son, and the future of Buffalo Airways. He was raised in the hangar, but Mikey never aspired to be a pilot like his dad. Instead, he earned a degree in business and is now being groomed to take over the reins at Buffalo, though Mikey jokes that this only means “getting in more trouble, more often” with Joe. With the moral support of his orange office cat, he navigates the company through financial turbulence, in-flight emergencies, and one of Buffalo Airways’ most epic and harrowing journeys ever – all under the watchful eye of his dad.

You never know where Mikey will show up during the Airshow weekend but we’re pretty sure at some point he will be in the Museum’s retail tent helping to peddle the Buffalo Airwear line of clothing and goodies.
