the MESA looks to be the best soln on view from weight and space pov while still maintaining 360′ and surely the E-3 successor will have that style.
Israel probably doesnt have the technology yet to make it so powerful and so small.
A triangle array with 60′ angles means even with a huge 30′ blind area on each
side (180-30-30 = 120′ onlee per panel), these areas are well within the zone of
the other sides of triangle :diablo:
bravo please stop embarassing yourself. the airforce-technology (and their related sites) are just manufacturer directories who no form of independent analysis. the text there is from the brochures.
Explain to use the radar physics involved for 180′ azimuth and what _compensatd_ 360 coverage means and you will get a fair hearing.
come at us with brochure claims that clearly fly against known solutions (like mesa and G550) and you will only get laughed at.
put up or shut up.
it quite clear looking at the israeli Gxxx proposal that Ereyie has blind spots in the front and rear of around 30′ each minimum. granted the smaller array diameter in front and back will be reduced in max range.
this discussion can be closed unless someone comes up with papers or evidence that ericsson has ‘secret’ arrays front and back or a new radar soln that has perfect 180′ coverage.
just press releases of 360′ coverage wont do when same talks of 2×150′ and doesnt explain how the mission 60′ is covered.
the service ceiling of the saab2K per wikipedia is 31,000ft . The gulfstream G550 has a 51000ft and IL76 42000ft…737 & E-3 similar.
This also affects its horizon. higher the perch better you see.
for small size and cost reduction yet full functionality, the G550 looks better than Ereyie. Its would also be faster than saab2K thats for sure.
the airframe of the JF-17 does look primitive compared to the J-10 or any other serious domestic oriented design. small wings with high loading arent suited much to A2A role.
avionics & weapons come and go but the basic airframe limitations always remain. fuel, drag, range, manouver…..
as a replacement for the A-5, J-7 it is ok…. I guess thats why Pak is going for both J-10 and F-16 to shore up the higher end of spectrum.
well the AN-12 is long retired from IAF. china makes a ‘clone’ named Ye-something (believe it houses their new AEW project). An-24? IAF uses lot of AN-32 and deal is signed with Ukraine for new engines and refurbishment of structure…they will be around a while for sure.
EU galileo will imo be a victim of political, funding and workshare battles. nobody should hang their hat on that hook.
while the AG/ADS-1 are nice to have, I dont see any activity on the front where IN really needs some teeth – “Nueva Moskva” :p ASW helicopter carriers to dominate and sanitize large areas against the submarine threat.
20Kt (vikrant sized)
25 knots top, 15 knots cruising
60 days endurance on internal fuel and cruise speed
15 assorted ASW NH90/Dhruv/SeaKing helos, 5 utility Bell407 for csar,people
barak-1 (32 cells) in sponsons along sides
barark-NG (16 cells) aft side of island for opportunistic attacks on LRMP
BEL 3DCAR for seach/or S1850 if money is good
MF-star radar for Barak-NG guidance
16 cell vl-club ASW fwd side of island
rbu anti torpedo weapons
some facility for fleet command control room
facility to control sonar equipped FFG and UUV ‘beaters’ to flush the prey
into jaws of trap
these imo would make life a lot tougher for SSKs trying to ambush SAG/convoys or submarines trying to get through chokepoints like the
Malacca.
in a emergency by keeping the helis on deck, the hanger can probably house
700 troops and their equipment. enough to subdue some minor colonial revolt
in the far flung shores of Empire. :diablo:
>> There is nothing to support the idea that ADS-2 will be significantly
>> larger than the first unit.
>> It is unlikely that a second ADS would grow in size significantly,
other than some repair work is there anything to support the idea that varyag is joining the combat fleet ? is there anything to say what size of carrier if any china will build ? any statements by the defence ministry regarding carrier size, funding, timelines? and people are already having them prowling around with a fleet of 60kt carriers armed with Su33!
I see that all “speculation” about PRC is supposed to be accepted as gospel in the absense of any hard news while “speculation” about other countries is taken as speculation…rotfl. :diablo:
afaik Gorshkov will have a verandah stbd of island to provide an additional channel for moving a/c from rear elevator towards the ski ramp.
imho once the infra is established and ADS-1 rolled out, the ADS-2 can be made bigger around 60,000kt size. by 2015 Rus might launch a carrier with steam capapult and we can just pick the catapult off the shelf. or ask Unkil politely :p
I dont think Ru will be fielding a fighter aesa before 2015. the Irbis scheduled for delivery in 2010 is a improved-pesa perhaps the last of the noble breed and end of line for bars family. Zhuk has promised much and not delivered a whole lot.
NIIP is surely working on a Aesa perhaps they will keep Irbis back end as common and change the front end for a Aesbis radar 😉
Israel will likely finished the EL/M-2052 in the next five yrs and press for that
when they go JSF and also sell it to friendly nations.
EU will delay aesa induction until 2025 citing lack of funds :p
Unkil and Israel look to be only game in town. Unkil is on 3rd gen models now and perhaps 5th gen micro-aesa by 2020 giving JSF the power of todays E3.
well a lot of nations not on Unkils beloved munna list would love get a half-dozen as extra insurance and to browbeat neighbours….Iran, Noko :diablo:
…taiwan which is unable to get anything from germany/france due to PRC pressure maybe able to hook up with russia for this. singapore could find some use to supplement the scorpene. north african nations, south africa, indonesia,
……everyone ought to be a equal-opportunity Klub user.
the Amur950 of similar size is being marketed with 10 vl-klub tubes and 4 torpedo tubes(without reloads apparently) to anyone who wants it. Iran would probably love a dozen of these 🙂
why have TVC if it is just as agile without it it
I believe it helps flight performance at high altitude (reduce use of control surfaces) and in sustained turnings.
quite a good idea. the marine JSF should be great in that role over the sea.
The UK was right not to export the Blue Vixen to India, at least from the standpoint of non-proliferation. Why offer nearly free technical assistance to a nuclear power like India?
>> huh? India never asked for the small aperture limited blue vixen. far better
>> radars are coming in.
It is clear that possession of Blue Vixen radar sets would have been useful for India’s own MMR program
>> and why ? if anything Israel and Russia are far closer to India in offering
>> any help desired. MMR is too far along for “reverse engineering” from
>> anything
India should have snapped up these Sea Harrier airframes, as offered.
>> sea harrier has less range, less upgrade potential, less speed, less
>> ceiling, less weapons, far less T:W, worse avionics than the swank new
>> Mig29K with the “sea wasp” engines . sea harrier is a relic of the past.
>> right now IN pilots are doing carrier training in florida.
>> I suggest sell the harriers to china.
Instead, money is being spent on older, less serviceable Sea Harriers and the very riskly MiG-29K purchase.
