after Ussr breakup I think the entire Mig29 fleet suffered from negligible flying hours for 3-4 yrs in early 1990s, so the avg for the remaining yrs would be somewhat higher.

what is the useful operating ceiling of the Chinook and Merlin ? the Merlin was “claimed” to be siachen-capable i.e. around 20,000ft land and takeoff with useful loads but not field tested in the real siachen. the Chinook I believe cannot venture anywhere near those heights?

the Mi17V has been proven for years in some of the worst operating conditions (kashmir) and performed creditably.

in A_stan you probably need 15,000ft ability for working with SF units.

did the USSR ever test the Mig29 to gather these datas NAL will collect? or did they fly it for 500hrs and throwaway in favour of new machines?

testing a big clumsy 450KT weapon that needs a decade to weaponize for missile delivery and soaks up most of Pu239 inventory wouldnt have scared anyone.

testing a small, light low-KT weapon suitable for suitcase, car or tapeodong delivery sure worries the world a lot more. the phone lines to Peking must be buzzing with worried “friends” pleading with PRC for dirt on which clients the
    NoKo regime has been entertaining…..

Peking is going to extract a heavy price for “soothing and moderating” Kim now
in a good cop, bad cop routine.

the rough talk of anti-dumping duties on chinese products, revaluatio of yuan
is history. its finely aged beef steak, milwaukee beer and foot massages for the
PRC ambassador in D.C. now ….and a allexpenses trip to Bellagio :diablo:

suppose tomorrow a 5KT device takes out core of chicago, who are you going to blame and what will be the realistic response? will you kill a million civilians in pyongyang or islamabad while the people who detonated the device hide in london with 4 more?

points to ponder. incorrect policies followed by the west towards chinese proliferation has made US totally impotent on this issue. flatulence and tough talk is all we can expect. NoKo is going to reap free billions now holding out the threat of collapse and leakage just like Musharaff did

Iran is going to play a fine tuned version of this soon, it has good teachers ! :diablo:

the West is in full retreat mode here.

is that the device was not really NK but from somebody else, like ex CCCP

the concept is right, but the suspect is wrong.

afaik MTA is a completed design from ilyshin 214 something(?) and it certainly doesnt have a 12000nm range 11 hr endurance requirement. its a tactical not strategic airlifter.

I laugh quietly at the people who believe it was a NK design and it fizzed.

It is a proven design with proven components assembled and maintained in NK.

    no more from me here.

contrary to common perception it seems lean cuts of pork are actually quite
better to beef in terms of fat content …. but trust people never to do the wise thing…

Where are the ‘new’ Jags from? Remanufactured or ex French/ Royal Air Force?

Neither. there is no need for the quote around _new_. They are license built
    brand new bodies by HAL.

if one looks back at history, India always need a slap to wake up and start running and inshallah circumstances/munna’s always do that once a decade (collapse of ussr, kargil, chinese moves…). Stuff is always late to be purchased or upged (true for almost any armed forces…see the british gripes about common stuff like rifles and shoes) … its not easy in a democratic setup to allocate huge resources on any one item…for each rupee there are 10 claimants all with valid cases.

but in the end, India always gets stuff in major quantity – 1500 T72 tanks or 400 FH77 howitzers or phalcons (entire NATO has all of 20, even 3+3 will be a good number) or Hawks 66 to start with and IN joining in. helicopters in huge quantity, UAV in huge nos, big nos of Mig27, big nos of Jaguars

conventionally India is and will remain a very dominating force in IOR and Unkil seems happy enough with that setup. with AIP submarines are made we shall finally be able to reach the long cherished (PBUH) dream of fighting a serious sea denial war in the south china sea 😀

things are lookin up, there is a spring in everyone step. sustained 8+% GDP growth last 4 yrs and decades of that to come will provide the $$ for umpteen good stuff….

PBUH. also Munna can forget about china helping out on the border. chinese
have no stomach left for a serious and damaging war that will hurt investor
sentiments badly. they will supply a few toys and keep a low profile behind
the green door as usual. IAF can safely denude everything to focus the heat on a few points.

Allah! I need to go and say my friday prayers now…peace be upon all my brothers.

indian armed forces are using the latest pkg for Munna to create a fear psychosis and push thru all their desired items quicker. this is an old game that military brass everywhere tend to play as in “usaf losing the edge, so we need 1000 f22”, “soviet alfa subs unbeatable so we need 100 Seawolf” “soviets working on carriers, give us more CVN” :p

if even 50% of desired inventory is laid in, IAF will be a frighteningly powerful entity able to take apart anyone but Unkil limb from limb in the indian ocean region…oh I forget they can do that _today_

but then smacking someone ten times over is always more fun :diablo:

Hundred and seventy two helicopters will also get a new life

guess that means bulk of Alouette-III and Lama fleet will get the Chetan and Cheetal upg.

the army will probably buy the Bell407 scout helo model ~190 from its own
budget…and with ~80 dhruvs delivered, hundreds more are sure to come…
    ..production rate has ramped up.

this will finally permit army to have helicopter density on par with wealthy nations though not US army std.
